Regular Love bracelet too big. Should I sell and buy a smaller one?

When I first bought my regular Love, it was too big. Since there aren’t any Cartier boutiques in the state of Colorado, I had to order online. I was heavier at the time, and since I’m big boned, I ordered a size 20. When I received it, it was immediately a lot bigger than I thought. But I kept it regardless because I don’t like any jewelry fitting too tight. It didn’t bother me, but that was two years ago.

Fast forward to now, and I’ve since lost 40 lbs (and more to be counting), so now it’s really big on me. It’s starting to go up my elbow and as you can see from the pics, it’s way too big.

My question is, should I sell it and save up to buy a smaller one, or just keep? I’d have to sell it through a reseller like Fashionphile and I know they’d offer me nowhere near what it’s worth. And since I can’t really afford one right now, I’d have to depend on what I’d receive from selling it and save up for the rest.

I guess I’m at a stand still with what to do. I love it so much, but it’s just so big now. It’s annoying.

Thanks all. Sorry for the long post. IMG_1187.jpegIMG_1186.jpeg

Congrats on your weight loss! It is really big on you. I would sell it. You are unhappy with the fit and say it is annoying so why not put the money toward a new one or another piece that makes you happy and feels good on because it is the right fit. On a side note, I hate that they took out the Cartier boutique in Denver. It is hard to order such expensive pieces online and not be able to try them on first. I live in the Pikes Peak region and used to visit the boutique in Cherry Creek. At least there is still a Tiffany and Co.

I see what you mean. Not sure if there are resellers where you might can do a trade for a smaller size? Or perhaps try to sell it yourself so that you can get more $$? I would definitely sell/trade and get the right size. That will give you much more joy and it will look much better on your wrist since the one you have now has become way too big. A piece of jewelry shouldn't feel annoying, it should give you joy and I'm sure you'll feel much happier with the right size :flowers:.

I agree with this so much. The purpose of jewelry is to make you happy and feel good when you’re wearing it. You’re getting a worse value keeping a $$$ bracelet that doesn’t accomplish those things, vs spending more to get the correct one.

If I recall, you have more than 1 love bracelet correct? If so, are they the same size and do they overlap because of being too big? If they aren’t the same size, that’s more reason to be inclined to sell or (“pay up/exchange” through Cartier for the correct size).
I ask this because I have two love bracelets, same size, but like you, I lost some weight (though only 15 lb; but they initially were a loose fit) and they now overlap and switch places sometimes- it’s annoying :-( because one is pave, in my case, I’m going to just deal with it. But I would get the correct size if I were you!

I know, I used to frequent that Cartier boutique all the time (I used to work at Cherry Creek at Ralph Lauren), and I miss it so much. Then for some reason, they got rid of the one in Aspen too.

It is big now for sure. If I were in your position I’d save up and take it back to Cartier and pay the premium of “resizing” so you have a new one. Between the money loss of selling to a middle man you may break about even and end up with a new one instead of preowned.
Oh, I never thought about going that route. The problem is, we don't have a Cartier boutique here, so is that something I could ship to Cartier directly to have done? How much does something like that cost?

I used to. I ended up selling my small Love a few months ago. Just didn't like how small it was, and probably because it was a size 20 so it just looked tiny (in width I mean, not the actual size). Not really a fan of the small Love, so I just have the regular size right now.

Several people here have done it or inquired about it, there’s a thread somewhere!

Thanks for everyone's replies. You all agree that it's way too big and I should sell it. Or like Swanky suggested, take it to Cartier and have them rebuild a new one. Either way, I think I'm going to send in a request to Fashionphile and quote it just to see how much they'd pay. I'm curious. They gave me $2300 for my small Love, which was a little more than half of what I paid. But I took it.

I'll keep you ladies posted to what they offer me. Thanks!

Also, from looking at the pics of my size 20, should I go for a size 18? I still think a 19 would be too big. God, I wish I could try them on. For reference, my small JUC was a size 18, and it seemed to fit really well, and that was before I lost the weight. Does a Love fit differently than a small JUC?

If 18 JUC fit well, then 19 in Love is what is usually recommended (JUC is rec as one size smaller than Love)

Yes they fit differently.
What does your wrist measure?
Will you lose more or possibly gain weight?

I wouldn’t do anything until you’re at a consistent weight for a good amount of time.
