Wow thanks for this. I need to do a youtube video on this.
This was so terrible! I'm a regular at this location, familiar with all of the staff, and arrived at the store today to drop off a trade.

Upon arrival things were already a bit off. The metal protective cages on all the windows and doors were down, and there were two police officers on each side. I had no idea a robbery took place on Sunday, and I had called on Monday to inquire about a trade for an item in the store, but was having some technical issues and problems with an order arriving not as described. The employee had made no mention of a robbery, or I wouldn't have spent three hours driving up today (Tuesday) from visiting a friend in San Diego.

Some of the perks of having a Rebag boutique near you are that they are able to remedy issues faster, as well as process your trade very quickly. After all of the shipping/receiving horror stories, I only drop off items in the boutiques. Your item technically doesn't leave the boutique until the authentication is complete and your order is ready to ship. If there are any problems, you can just stop by and pick up your item. Of course there are exceptions to this rule for really rare or unusual items that need to be sent to their main authentication center.

Anyways, upon arrival, I was extremely confused why the store was completely closed up during prime business hours around noon, and coincidentally an employee walked up and unlocked the store. I thought he was unlocking the store so I could drop off my trade, but he immediately stopped me and mentioned the store was ceasing operations until further notice because of the "incident."

At this point I was extremely perplexed and annoyed after driving three hours, and asked to speak with the manager. The manager came out and apologized, and I then realized a robbery had taken place after looking around the store. The entire store was almost empty of any bags/watches/jewelry, and anything remaining seemed to be in the process of being packed up. The manager did take my trade, and I felt a bit guilty acting like a Karen, but I wish they had mentioned on the phone the day prior that the store wasn't accepting trades to prevent this whole debacle. (Or not allow the option on the website/app to drop off trades at this location temporarily).

Thankfully no one was hurt to my knowledge, but this was definitely an eerie and spooky experience. I might be taking a break from the pre-loved luxury market for a while, this is just getting to be too much.

What is with the two posts above the last one from @shestheposh that sound like they were written by a bad chatgpt bot?

People whose first language is not English sometimes use translators...

But since these two messages are both new members, with only one message each, and yet used exactly the same wordings... Someone may be trying to do damage control and manage some PR fallout over here...

It will all come down to insurance and whether the cashflow situation has not already become Ponzi-like.
Also, a business in trouble is not above orchestrating these types of things. Allegedly.
I posted this on my instagram and you are the second person that thinks something fishy might be going on with this. There terms have change since I did my complaint with the NY consumer protection services.

When businesses become desperate, anything is possible. Allegedly.

Cashflow is key here; if the influx has been so reduced that the business struggles, in a bad economy, high interest rates, reduced access to credit, bags not selling... Etc. It could be tempting to just "solve" the issue and "take matters in own hands". Allegedly.

Look at the slumlord everybody keeps referring to; setting his own property on fire... Usually it is because rent is low, with combative tenants or tenants locked in with very low rents... And potential insurance payouts seem more lucrative than endlessly fighting to try and increase rents or kick out people who are combative and dug in. Allegedly.

Also, in the watch world, the dude called "Timepiece Gentleman". Same thing, cashflow became tight, also had lifestyle issues, and soon enough his cashflow structure became Ponzi-like. Allegedly.

There seem to be a lot of shenanigans going on a Rebag... Lots of complaints... Check out Kate Swan's videos. I would not be surprised. And it is not as if it is hard to hire a couple of thugs to do whatever. Allegedly.

My opinion only. Allegedly. (LOL!)

Before anyone jumps down my throat, I know watches and bags are different markets.
But luxury goods are luxury goods and consignment is consignment and cashflow problems are cashflow problems.
