Hy everyone
A quick question:

How would you arrange a new
Bag closet to fit around 150 items

By brand? By color? By size?
Inspiration photos are more than welcome

I would maybe arrange them by function - work bags, evening bags, casual bags, etc. Then I would know which section to reach for when I am getting ready for a particular occassion. Although I think arranging by colour would look really cool in the closet, so that could also be an option. I want to see your 150 items, sounds so fab!

I have just moved so had to unpack mine. I stuck with by brand, with the ones I use the most [LV] in the centre easier to reach section. The ones I no longer reach for at the top or bottom. I don't sell my bags so there are plenty I don't use very often. I have several one off brands and did separate them by function along the bottom.

I arrange mine by color and size. For example, large brown bags are together on one shelf and small brown bags are together on another. Some seem randomly placed with certain colors (i.e. there's an orange bag on one of my brown bag shelves), but it's because I may wear one color in place of a more neutral color (i.e. orange instead of brown).

I would definitely arrange by brand first. I have all my bags on the top shelves - all the NF's together, all the Speedys together, etc. Pochettes and Eva's are on a smaller shelf together. Slg's are together on different shelves - wallets grouped together , etc. if you really want to go crazy you can label the boxes and put a pic of the item on the outside. I haven't gotten that far yet lol
I have a California closet system which works for me as I feel "cubbies" would limit how many bags I can fit next to each other.

Ah I just moved recently and had to figure out again what works. In fact, I'm going to convert another room when I have the time to supplement the walk in so I will have to rethink this again soon. :p

So hundreds of bags later, I have a system for my most used top 80ish that made it into my closet. The rest are currently stored in the closet of the spare room (which would need to be "dealt with" when I figure out design for converting that room.

Each bag is inside its easy access Velcro opening rectangular cube that has its color photo on the opening flap so i can easily see which bag it is.

I group them by how often I use them (the favorites) by areas of the closet from favorite/most frequently used to least. Then there is one section for larger size bags/totes as I rarely/don't often wear large bags.
Within each group/area, they're sub-grouped by size and color (darkest to lightest).

Then there are storage bins/open top large cubes at a lower section of the closet that I then put in the bags that are non-premium designer brand bags that are still very high quality and cute/special (for when I want a more low key bags or when there's pouring rain for example). One bin for smaller size bags and clutches, one bin for larger sized ones. These are the bags that are in the closet.

Then there are other large plastic tubs that hold the not frequently used bags pretty much just for storage and however they most effectively fit. These are generally bags that I go to for a specialty shape/color or occasion (e.g. a watermelon straw tote for beach), etc.

Sounds quite complicated but because my most frequently used bags are all organized effectively by sections and they have color photos on the outside, it's actually quite easy as I know which section to "turn" to when I dress and I can see my bags easily as they are on the color photos.

I store my bags on shelves by color (ROYGBIV then metallics). They are stored upright and lightly stuffed without the dustbags (I rotate through all of them so they never get a chance to get dusty).

Color is my preference for two reasons. First, when I am putting an outfit together, I think "I need either a red or pink bag for this". I don't think "I need a Chanel bag for this". So it's easy for me to go to the right color sections and grab the bag that will work.

I also like storing them this way because I can immediatleu see all my bags, they look organized and the color coordination is beautiful like a store display. The rainbow of colors makes me very, very happy. :amuse:

I nest my bags according to size & color. Smaller bags (lightly stuffed & in dust bags w/silicone packet) help to keep my totes in correct shape with minimal additional stuffing. Ideally I'd love to have them all on display, but just don't have that kind of room (and on my warmer climate have had patent leather stick to sides of a wood cubby, so beware of that). I'd love to see pics of what you perfect.

I don't have NEARLY that many bags (I feel overwhelmed imagining it!), but if I did, I would go:

1. By occasion (i.e. evening, work totes, casual, beach, travel); then
2. By colour.

I also store all mine in dustbags, but if I had that many I would feel inclined to keep them out or else I would forget about them! You may want to create a labeling or index system so you know what you have where if you do keep them in their dustbags - photos pinned on dustbags or available on shelves can work.

Anything you design should make sure to have lots of airflow, and ways to keep humidity down if you live in a humid area. With 150 bags even if you wear EVERY single one in a year, you can be going a year or more between wears so making sure they are properly stored is going to be a big factor.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with, and I am disappointed there aren't more photos from others with these amazingly large collections in here!

I don't have a many as you but overall I go by color. Mine are all in dust bags so when I used to have them only by brand it was to hard to remember which bag was where. Now that they are buy color is is so easy to grab the right one. I did not want to have to deal with labeling them. This works great for me and still looks very neat.

By size then by color within each size category. At first, I was thinking by occasion but some bags are appropriate for multiple occasions. Lastly, I find it very helpful to be able to see the bags because I suffer from "out-of-sight-out-of-mind" syndrome :p:p
