I know it's been a while since you posted this but do you feel there is THAT big a difference between the ordinary John Lobb shoes you can just get in store and their made to measure shoes to justify the difference in price? Thanks :smile1:

Hello, I had to ask DH for his take on it and he feels that for a custom made pair of John Lobb shoes where they would take exact measurements ( probably a couple of times) of your feet vs the ones you can buy at a store such a Nordstroms: while the price for the former is astronomical, it would be justified and worth it if one had hard to fit feet ie bunions, high arches, etc; HOWEVER, for people who have no issues with their feet, it's probably cost effective to buy Lobb shoes that are available at the store, esp if you are not picky about a particular type or grade of leather. That is essentially what custom-made is: the client determines what he/she wants. Personally, I'd be fine with off the rack as it would be a whole lot cheaper, but then again, IMHO the quality would not nearly be the same.

For me it is Roeckl: they offer bespoke service for their leather gloves. I have slim hands and long fingers and used to compromise in width and length.
Now I have two pairs of gloves made only for my hands, and they *literally* fit like a glove!

Wow, thank you for the quick reply :smile1: That's a really good point with the leather! I didn't even know there was that much of a choice regarding the leather. My DH wants some custom made John Lobb shoes but so far I was very hesitant to give my okay. I already found it hard to believe his John Lobb shoes were oh so much better than his Crockett and Jones shoes, because - let's be honest - at that price range I expect perfect quality anyway. :amuse:

If you go bespoke shoes, they will make a custom last (basically the shape of your feet) around which they will build your shoes -- this is where the initial expense comes from (once they've made the last, your subsequent orders will be just like regular MTM). With off the rack -- even MTM -- you will be choosing from available lasts. You could get lucky and they have lasts that are close to your foot shape, in this case you can go MTM where you pick leathers, colors, etc...

My father had his shoes and clothes bespoke. For him it was just convenient -- he simply called to order new clothes/shoes. He hated shopping and never gained weight

I didn't know they do custom orders and always bought from the rack. My hands are exactly the opposite of yours and will hardly fit into a standard cut glove...

Thank you for your input! This sounds completely outré and extravagant - a true luxury :graucho: :graucho:
My father was the same with his shoes. He only ever wore bespoke shoes, partly because he appreciated extraordinary craftsmanship but also because he had sensitive feet not being able to develop any hard skin. That lucky bastard always had feet like a freshly pedicured baby :D

Oh, aren't they spoiled? :p I'm telling you, this is why us women are badasses. I'd love to see them spending a day or clubbing/dancing in 15cm heels

I had my measurements taken two years ago, and they told me they would keep those for 1-2 years. So for the last two years I have ordered one pair each, I want one more pair and then I have all the colors I need.
Just visit one of their stores, they should be able to help!
I am not always happy with their customer service, but the craftmanship is impeccable!

Bespoke and MTO are the way to go if you need something that's either not being made or for fit, but there's no point in going to that expense for the sake of it

My bespoke shoes from Gucci. I had to go to 3 fittings
