I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with this question.

Is the black leather Sophia with style number 15960 rarer/different in any way from the other similar Sophia's of the same color/size? In looking at online auctions, it seems that this one sells for much higher prices than the 18609, which appears to be very similar in size. I'm wondering whether there is a reason for this... thanks!

From the pictures on ebay, the 15609 is an older style, the straps along the top of the bag are angled down, creating two little triangular 'ears' on the bag. The 18609 is newer, the straps go straight along the top, parallel with the zipper. It gives a little different look and hang to the bag. Maybe that has something to do with it? I don't know if production runs were significantly different.

This is the first generation Sophia and was much loved. Coach made changes to it and it wasn't received as well. The angled strap on the top giving it the ears and the pleats are the 2 main changes. Also, Coach stopped making the large Sophias before they stopped making the small one so a lot of us tried to scoop up the larges while we could. I imagine those would sell for a lot more than the smalls.

Do you guys know if the first generation crimson sophia is still in demand? 2 years ago they were selling for a couple hundred over retail. Im getting no bites on mine (priced below retail) and wondering if its out of favour. I am not doing ebay just local ads which I know is limited.

Thank you all for the info, especially for the pictures! I completely missed the difference in the straps and pleat. I do prefer the older style as well, and now it makes more sense as to why these are selling for a higher amount.

i think why those sophias went crazy in prices was b/c Oprah gave them away on her favorties episode. I remember watching it and everyone in the audience got either the crimson sophia or the camel/nude color sophia. Patent is a hit or miss kinda bag as if you store it wrong you can get these marks on it and you cant get rid of it :( good luck on yours.
