Hi,
I ordered something H special from this site. Should I worry about authenticity? This is my first order. Please share your experience.

Rakuten is just like eBay except it is in Japan. Rakuten in itself is not safe nor unsafe. Ultimately, it depends on the buyer. The same precaution that goes into dealing with various eBay sellers apply to Rakuten sellers as well.

While it is relatively rare to find fakes in Japan but that is not to say there are no GOOD fakes out there that may fool even the most savvy resellers. So, it goes back to knowing your seller and knowing what you are buying.

Please do your homework, as always! HOpefully, things will turn out well for you!

Did you go through a proxy buy or directly?

I have ordered from them before and the only problem is that if you use a credit card, you may find yourself getting an email from the seller asking for a bank wire as they do not accept out of country CC. If you are out of Japan, you need a shipping service as well and I have used Tenso, and others. I think on the whole, the site is a very good one and better at policing fakes than eBay. I do find that the sellers do not respond to out of Japan emails if you ask a question. There could be many reasons for that.

hanyeu, thanks for the information. Since this was my first purchase, I simply clicked on the item and went through the steps of purchasing it. I did contact the seller prior to making the purchase. The seller had many authentic luxury pieces. I could not find reviews....

Gracekelly,
I received an email about the tracking information today; I made the purchase yesterday. The seller emailed me, but in Japanese. I had to find a translator for three responses. I felt that the experience was not user-friendly. I prefer let-trade.com.

I hope all goes well. I will update when the item arrives.

Enjoy your weekend!

I would not disagree with that and I find I have to steel myself and get up my strength for the experience LOL! It has to be something that I really want. On one occasion, the seller did not fill out the customs slip properly and my bag was stuck in customs in Alaska!

^^Wow! How long?

Seemed like forever:p About 10 days. Two Fedex customs guys called me and we were playing telephone tag and when I finally got one of them on the phone, I had to be careful in my replies because I really could not figure out the problem. It turned out, at least this is what I think, they did not know what the bag was made out of, and that was making it hard to determine the duties I needed to pay. I told him it was horsehair crinoline and that left him clueless and then he started talking about the leather on the bag and then I realized that if I just said to him "the bag is made of leather" that would finalize the situation. I think he needed to hear those exact words. So I made him happy and said them. Paid about $34 in duties (I can barely remember!) and the bag arrived complete with dog hairs on the sleeper bag. They obviously put the dogs on it to sniff it out:roflmfao: That isn't as good as what happened to Perigord's sister who found dog treats in the box! LOL!

He said that the seller had not filled out the slip correctly, or this would not have happened.

they are getting much better nowadays with overseas shipments due to the higher volume of exports. Even their website has become more user friendly with english version for several countries.

the anxiety and thrill of ording overseas! We always can't be 100% sure, but when the item arrives....it is pure heaven. Good luck with the process and hope your item arrive quickly!

Hey everyone. I'm hoping someone could explain to me how exactly shopping with a forwarding service works on rakuten. There's a bag there that I want and I don't know whether I pay the forwarding company or the seller directly. Also what happens if, God forbid, the item needs to be returned (e.g. fake)?

Hope to hear from someone soon.

Thanks.

you will be paying the forwarder directly and then the forwarder pays the seller. It's a direct deal between the forwarder and the seller, not exactly you.
Therefore it's not up to the forward to decide if the bag is authentic or not. They are purely the middle man. if the bag turns out to be fake, basically there's not much you can do, generally they will just ignore your emails. It's not like in the States with lots of buyers protections. So you have to really make sure you have enough information given to tell the authenticity of the item that you are going to buy. If there's any doubt, try to avoid it. HTH
