i'm a big fan of bezel settings - especially the roundy ones :d. You can work, rest and play with them and don't have to give them a second thought. Imo, life's too short to worry about whether your settings are going to catch on something and/or whether a stone might ping off. And as long as the jewellery is of high quality, it's all going to sparkle regardless.

I certainly want to see yours!

ita!

now I am having second thoughts on the platinum bezel setting. Am I the only one to think yellow gold around the stone looks nicer than platinum?

I had a 4 prong classic setting and had it changed to a bezel, with white gold around the diamond and yellow around the white (two tone so i can wear it with whatever). I did it this way because my diamonds looked better against the WG. I think diamonds with a bit more color to it looks great with yellow gold becuase the YG enhances the color and makes it sparkle more... but thats just me... i think most people flat put prefer wg with diamonds-- i hardly see YG settings now :(

I have yellow gold in a bezel setting, didn't choose it as it was a gift, most of my other jewelry is set in platinum, and it is fine--the color of the metal is not really all that noticeable, it's just a rim that gives it a more finished look I think.

Oddly enough I had to make this EXACT same decision 2 months ago when deciding which studs to get my DD for her Birthday. My jeweller was kind enough to make TWO styles- 4 prong classic, and bezel ALL white gold though.

I chose the 4 prong ONLY because it allowed more light to shine through AND they appeared larger. The bezel set diamonds were gorgeous too and colour E, so it was a tough one, but oddly enough, I didn't like them as much as I thought I would.

HOWEVER! Since you said you're the sporty type, then I think you'd be happy with the bezel setting. And if you have amazing colour/quality diamonds, they will be spectacular.

Oh....and don't listen to a think "Cornflower Blue" says! ;)

Van Cleef's Fleurette earrings is made out of gold bezet-like settings. It's very beautiful and sparkly in real life and great for everyday wear. The small one is about 0.5ct each. I see a lot of custom jewelry shops having similar designs for a fraction of the price... :wondering:

thank you everyone for supporting me and also sharing opinions that differ from my opinion. :-)

I finally made my decision: the studs are going to be 100% yellow gold, no platinum rim. I don't know why but I entered the golden age, I love gold! It makes me smile, it is sensual and friendly. Platinum does not come with the same aura as gold does imho.

I never considered prongs being more delicate but of course it is true: when you exercise, dress, undress, with long hair, the 4 prongs could hook onto something (so did a ring with tiny prongs, I lost one diamond when slipping my arm into the sleeve of a coat).

I will post pictures! Probably in a new thread. :-)

I was naive - I only thought about the style, never cared about maintenance. I was also naive then I dyed my hair blonde - did not know that this could be tricky and not every hairdresser is skilled. Luckily it turned out fine. But when I heard what could have gone wrong afterwards I almost fainted. ;)
There is so much we need to know. Or should know.

I wanted to tell you about the happy ending!

0.83tcw, colour H (rather G imho), SI (the jeweller had his problems confirming the SI, they are close to VS2.

tadaaaaa!

(sorry for the one blurry photo, I can't take pictures with both hands).
I will take photos from the side tonight or tomorrow, so you get the whole picture.

He did it exactly the way I wanted it: with a rim as thin as possible.
And: he delivered in time, punctual. I am very happy, even though I spent a lot of money today.
