Prince Harry and Meghan Markle thread

I kindly request that all members participating in the MM and Harry thread dial back the vile rhetoric.

I am not opposed to discussing public personas on TPF, including the constant torrent of news surrounding the couple from this thread. But I find it troubling when their looks are being nitpicked apart to a degree that is just not appropriate.

This thread has drawn criticism over the years, and I discussed it at great length with Megs and the mods. I am not looking to close it down, but the vitriol needs to be dialed back.

My personal feelings about hate threads aside, this ultra-negative vibe is something better suited for other forums, Reddit, or elsewhere. I am holding our community to higher standards.

Thanks for reading.

I don't think MM had a choice in the matter. KC may still have a soft spot for his son but I don't think he wanted to risk her presence overshadowing him on the biggest day of his life. The "negotiations" may have been Harold begging to bring her but the palace said you come alone or stay home. I have a feeling things are quite frosty in Montdeceito these days.

I also believe she was not invited.
That curtesy scene in the video had to insult them deeply. Last straw and all that. Particularly given the timing and the queens health.

Meghan is definitely ranked, not linked at this point. LOL

Hmm... while that sounds good, I'm still like:

I can't believe she would give up the opportunity to be seeking worldwide media attention from a huge event like the coronation.
Unless she wasn't included on the invitation.
I can't help but think she'll turn up on the day with her hUsBaNd and that will be her 'attention stealing moment' because everyone thinks she's staying at home. Not that anyone cares about her that much, but because her ego has her thinking she's the most important person on the planet.
Am I the only one thinking that?

'Pleased to confirm'... Did they actually word the statement like that?!

Sugars are claiming it’s the honourable thing to do: daddy goes fulfilling his duty while mommy stays at home for the birthday. Like the high-powered, international couples that they are.
Forgetting, conveniently as always, that as someone mentioned up thread, they were BOTH away on one of Archie's birthday. My bet is she wasn’t invited and this is a face-saving measure and a chance to spring some suprises to upstage the coronation. Sugars with no critical thinking lap it up, of course.

I don't think she was invited but they'll never admit that, and as always the palace will be silent. She can't sneak into England. I believe she's staying in CA and not by choice.

I don’t think she was invited either. I think they gave her the A birthday/May 5 date as a polite out so she didn’t have public egg on her face. I think she's furious that everyone knows she’s been excluded and also that she doesn’t get seen/photographed at this biggest last event for her relevancy. Kitchenware and ceramics crashing everywhere at Montesh!tshow! :giggle:

Unless she was paid to keep quiet, the big question is - what will she do on Coronation Day to try to steal the show?

Agreed, Harry had to go, he was just trying to cut the best deal he could for himself with the most visibility since this is the last major worldwide event for the family for a very long while. Might be the last one Harry's ever invited to, so he maybe should take a good look around. I don't see William wanting him at his coronation or at any of his children's milestone events.

Hopefully, BP told Harry come or don't come, but we're done discussing "your terms". You'll sit where the King tells you to sit and you'll be on time for once because the bus taking the family members to the coronation isn't going to wait for you.
I fully agree with you, I suspect William won’t want Harry at any important events when he’s making the decisions.

I don't think harry would go if he didn't have the option of bringing his WIFE

Wherever Harold shows up he is going to look hostile and be borderline if not outright rude. He will act as if he really doesn't want to be there and only there because he had to be. I thought he acted that way at the funeral. With an affect like that, the other people will give him wide berth. Who wants to engage with a person like that? Even discussing the weather would be a trial. The consensus will be that he should have stayed home.

So, KC has changed the rule about paying homage. Big mistake imo.
Why, then, is Hazz going?

The Coronation of King Charles III will include many ancient rituals. However one will be changed. The start of 2023, Coronation year, brought the news that the royal dukes will not pay homage to His Majesty at Westminster Abbey.

Homage is an ancient ritual and involves a pledge to always serve the Monarch. It was an integral part of feudal monarchy. Its inclusion in the ceremony now is symbolic.

There are currently four royal dukes who, until 2023, would have been expected to pay homage at the Coronation. The only person to pledge themselves as liege man of life and limb to His Majesty will be his elder son, the Prince of Wales.

I think he's only going to the coronation and not any related events...probably wants to show a modicum of respect to keep his role as a prince or duke or whatever he is due to his accident of birth

Here's an idea for the amusement of the thread. Perhaps the plan is that they announced today that she is not going, but really they are looking for reaction to that. They are waiting to see if screams of disappointment are coming in from around the globe. Perhaps if it is an overwhelming response demanding she go. she will have to reconsider and the public demand that she appear will change her mind.

So far, the silence is deafening in California. Anyone hear anything?
So many sighs of relief they might try to spin it as gale force winds coming in off the Pacific. (We actually had gale wind warnings recently along my section of northern coastline.)

It all comes down to optics. The King doesn't want her near him because he doesn't want to be caught in any picture. These are people that had a photographer use a telephoto lens to take a picture of them, with the children of Peter and Zara, standing in a window the day of the Trooping. There is nothing she would stoop to in order to get the money shot. Her sugars will be using AI to create pictures of her and The King as if she attended the coronation.

He won't be cordial and he won't be smiling. The modicum of respect will be solely relegated to his bowing to The King and The Queen, and even then, I have my doubts about that.

This is slightly incorrect IMO. The PoW is doing it symbolically for all the Dukes of the Realm the way I understand it and not just for Royal Dukes. It is a way to save time instead of having each one do it.
