I kindly request that all members participating in the MM and Harry thread dial back the vile rhetoric.

I am not opposed to discussing public personas on TPF, including the constant torrent of news surrounding the couple from this thread. But I find it troubling when their looks are being nitpicked apart to a degree that is just not appropriate.

This thread has drawn criticism over the years, and I discussed it at great length with Megs and the mods. I am not looking to close it down, but the vitriol needs to be dialed back.

My personal feelings about hate threads aside, this ultra-negative vibe is something better suited for other forums, Reddit, or elsewhere. I am holding our community to higher standards.

Thanks for reading.

‘No coronets’ as peers told to dress down for Coronation by Buckingham Palace

Members of the House of Lords traditionally wear a special coronation robe but peers have been told to wear their usual parliamentary ermine

Peers attending King Charles’s Coronation next monthhave been asked to dress down to match the atmosphere of the pared-back ceremony.
Members of the House of Lords traditionally wear a special coronation robe for the occasion made of scarlet velvet with a collar of white fur, and a coronet that determines their rank in the British peerage.
But those invited to the Coronation on May 6 have been told they may only wear their usual parliamentary ermine, used at the state opening of Parliament each year, or standard business dress.
The Telegraph understands the more relaxed dress code is designed to fit with the monarch’s desire for a pared-back ceremony that reflects public attitudes towards the Royal family and a desire to avoid excess during the cost of living crisis.
Peers that would prefer to wear a robe can borrow one from Parliament for the occasion. Most do not own their own.

Ceremonial dress for members of the peerage was first introduced in the late 15th century and coronation robes were standardised two hundred years later.

Signify the wearer’s rank

The robes are only worn for coronations and often passed down between hereditary peers.
They are available to buy from specialist retailers including Ede and Ravenscroft, which has provided robes for 12 British coronations. This year’s dress code has been set for attendees by Buckingham Palace.
The fur collars on coronation robes are made from ermine, with black spots in varying patterns to signify the wearer’s rank, while historically peers also wore coronets of different designs depending on their seniority.
A baron, the lowest rank, would wear a band decorated with six silver balls, while a duke’s would be decorated with eight strawberry leaves.
At Queen Elizabeth’s coronation in 1953, peers were allowed to wear a “cap of maintenance”, a red velvet cap lined with ermine, in place of the coronet.
In an interview in 2018, the late Queen revealed many attendees had hidden sandwiches in their coronets in preparation for the three-hour ceremony.

King Charles’s ceremony is expected to last just over one hour, in an attempt to reduce the extravagance and complexity of the service.
The guest list is expected to be less than half the length of his mother’s, and national celebrations will be designed to reflect the diversity and multiculturalism of modern Britain.
Buckingham Palace has said in a statement that the ceremony will “reflect the monarch’s role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry”.
Many attendees are unlikely to have a good view of the King as he is crowned because they will be seated in side chapels to the main nave of Westminster Abbey.
The less-important guests seated elsewhere are likely to include MPs and peers.
“I suspect a lot of the MPs who go won’t be able to see a thing,” said one well-placed source.
“There will be quite a lot of people who will get quite a rubbish view.”
A Government source confirmed that not all attendees will be able to see the ceremony but noted that the same was true at other coronations throughout history.

Commenters want a show :graucho:

A pared down ceremony is not what this member of the public wants, it should be in all its pomp and glory. Not that I am an admirer of Charles but it is the institution that counts not an unloved individual. Though I am unlikely to see it I hope William and his graceful, elegant and beautiful wife will really give the country something celebrate.

No coronets? Let’s hope there are kind hearts instead.

What’s the point if not a spectacle, removes the mystery and you may as well have a Netflix series, bring it back, no tiara on the Princess of Wales, a procession shorter than ascot…. This is where we should be banging the drum not a tin whistle. I think it’s a mistake, if I want to watch a CEO have a meeting then fine, but come on!

I think he’s making a big mistake here. What is the point of a coronation, if not to be a spectacle?

Will Lord Lebedev of Siberia be attending?

Any more paring back and there won’t be much point in having a Coronation. Frankly it’s all the same to me whether he has one or not- he automatically became King the second our late Queen drew her last breath. But if you’re going to have one you might as well do it properly.

Cost of living crisis - what nonsense. Charles does not get it. It needs to be as magnificent as possible with bling to the hilt in the same way that in the 1930s depression the public wanted films with thousands of dancing girls in Busby Barclay formations not a band of emaciated clog dancers.

What's the point of a coronation if you don't go all out? After all if peers wanted to have their robes refreshed or buy new ones, it would be a boost to a niche business. Ladies would need new dresses, tiaras and coronets would need to be polished, parties and balls would be given, invitations would be printed, fun would be had, Britain would be glorified, tourists would want to come and celebrate too. Even if the government didn't want over the top decorations because of the expense, there would be money spent by individuals who can afford it. People don't travel around the world to see Dutch inaugurations, they do for coronations...but maybe not this downmarket coronation.

I do so wish I’d been born into aristocracy. It must be tremendous fun at times like this.

Why not just have a “bring your own picnic” to the park and have it done in ten minutes? This is nonsense. A thousand year old ritual reduced to (as one wag here put it: opening a Tesco) trying to appeal to people with no appreciation or interest in such history and traditions. Hopefully if there is a throne for William to inherit one day he will do it properly. I’d love to see it.

Oh dear, playing to the cheap seats…

This 100% !!!

 , not for K or W, it's all for the cameras to set tongues wagging.

Oh, and look  , we're all doing exactly what she planned and what she wants.

But how is "Ghoul has the hots for her happily married BIL" even remotely flattering to her and even remotely aggravating for the Walseses? I guess I'm happy my brain doesn't work the same way than hers.

You're thinking with your head again

We're talking about some cheap-seat-imposter that got her education about power from Dynasty.

It's ALL fiction for her anyway. We are but minor characters or extras in her big blockbuster. The BRF, the UK, you, me, the rest of the world. Only Hollywood is real, the only measure of power is who gets the biggest trailer, the only 'truth' is what you 'share' through PR.

Making out there's something going on, nudge nudge, wink, wink. Oh, wow, what could be going on?

It's the questions, column inches and clicks that she cares about, spicing-up what are what she considers 'dullsville'

Becky Sharp got nothing on this b*tch

I can’t imagine the amount of calculated effort and plotting required to go into such a scheme to have every image reflect lust towards one’s competitor’s SO for that purpose..but then again this IS the scheming witch we are talking about. To be able to put on that solid of an act would require at least solid acting skills, and we know that bar is too high for her.

I really think she did/does lust after him and he was ultimately her goal. The fact that he didn’t at all fall for any of her games and is involved in thwarting her efforts to achieve status through the BRF are what is now driving her revenge against him and Catherine. “If I can’t have him and the perks that come with that family, I will ruin them”
I think it's a stretch to say William was her goal. He was already married with kids when she met Harry. I think when she hooked him she got more than what she had aimed for. doesn't mean she may not be jealous of Kate or that once she nailed H, she hadn't wished she had gotten the future king.

Just my opinion: I think she has such a high opinion of herself that she can't imagine any man rejecting her. As someone said, she is a social mountaineer. She may have climbed Mt Harry and seen him as a gateway to Charles and William. I don't think she would have been fussy about which one she charmed - and there were stories that Charles was charmed by her when she pretended to be interested in ... was it British history? If William had ever smiled at her, her stans would have blown up with how she is a better fit for him than Catherine. Why anyone thinks she would have made a good queen beats me. It's likely to be the same people who dream of being Disney princesses themselves and think Zed farts rainbows.
