if they are irridated (or dyed even worse)then it is a bad price if they are natural black then the price is good. black diamonds have a very special appeal and became famous when jewellers fawaz gruosi started the trend of using them for his brand deGrisogono and now you even find them with cartier. so i say it depends a black diamond is not equal a black diamond(like a white diamond is not the same as a white diamond kwim) and the poster above is right a perfect piece of black diamond jewellery can go into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. so if you love them and they are natural then go for them i can imagine the necklace to be quite striking

Thanks for the info....the piece is really nice and totally caught my eye! It has a unique kind of luster that is very different. I couldnt get my mind off it...lol.

Im going to make sure that they are natural and purchase it if she can guarentee that it is.

i emailed the people at that website that I sent you yesterday... because I was curious about pricing... and this is the response I got.

Diamonds are weighed in carats.
For e.g. if a diamond strand weighs 30 crt. & the rate per crt. is US$ 22, then the price of the strand is 30 crt x 22 = US$ 660

ooh and im still confused. lol

I hear ya...Im confused too. Especially the fact that with beaded gem necklaces, there is so much variety of pricing....my jeweler tells me that the quality does differ and to see if there are black spots or cracks that is visible and the overall color....which is all too much for me to decern...lol.

But Im passing on the black diamonds and have purchased the sapphire one, I started a new thread for it.

You have been such a great help!! Thanks alot!!!:woohoo:

Gruosi did an excellent job with black diamonds. All those designs with black diamonds, it makes me want to get some!

HI! newbie here. I'm quite the jewelery nut, kind of an "amateur gemmologist", taken a few gemmology courses. Black diamonds while very pretty, are actually the lowest quality of diamonds. They are black because they are actually "Fully included" with carbon. You know how you have VVS, VS, VS1, VS2, SI, etc? Well, just consider black diamonds to be at the very end of this list. I think they are fun, but are a fad that will soon die out. They should be very inexpensive, except that DeBeers is obviously trying to market this to the public at large, and make what money they can off them. I can get them from my jeweller if I want, very cheaply. They would be nice maybe pave with pink sapphires or diamonds? But, you shouldn't pay too much for them at all.
