I am eyeing a 2 strand beaded black diamond necklace....the jeweler is not sure about the carat weights...it looks about 15 total or more. The price is 1200.00. She says its a special price because she has only 2 and the other one is with colored sapphires which is not pretty to me. This one is all black diamond beads with white gold bead stations.

Its not too small but isnt all that big either...Im so sorry that I dont have pics. :shame:

I was wondering what the average cost should be around?? I have seen plenty of rings but not something like this...I googled it but had no luck there. I didnt care for black diamonds before, but in this style, it has a certain appeal.

Can you guys help me?!

Hmm, good question. I'm not familiar with black diamonds, but I imagine they're sort of a blind item; they're like art: worth what someone is willing to pay.

from what ive heard from my SA's when we were looking for a bad for my hubby....is that black diamonds are plentiful and cheap because they are just really dirty diamonds....kind of like brown diamonds or champangeeeeeeeeeee LOL LOL LOL but worse!

but i could be wrong!! :)

I was thinking that black diamonds should be cheap too.....but are they irridated?? My jeweler says that it may be heat treated but she doesnt carry irridated diamonds.

Are black diamonds abundant or rare?!

it depends... i am pretty sure there is different types of black diamonds. I have heard of large ones being worth 100s of thousands...

the briolette form that you are speaking of.. probably not so much.. but with that being said.. i want one too...lol

I took a pic so you can see what it would look like, this is another one I got from the same jeweler in Ruby..

But she says that she has one that is bigger in just one strand and I'd rather take that one instead....

If the black diamonds are the same size as the rubies in your pic and nicely polished, ect. then 1200 is an ok price, imo.

BTW, love the rubies. I don't have any black diamonds, but I did get some black spinel beads as an alternative.

I would like to aquire a black diamond strand too!

If you like the necklace, that would be a good price. Some people purchase jewelry primarily to wear, and others for the intention of investment. In my opinion, irradiated (I am assuming these are) black diamonds are not good investment pieces, as they are basically the worst quality diamonds that were not clear enough to make into white diamonds, but too discolored, and had to be irradiated black.

It does not make it any less beautiful, but if you are of the sort that want an investment, I would steer away.

if they are irridated (or dyed even worse)then it is a bad price if they are natural black then the price is good. black diamonds have a very special appeal and became famous when jewellers fawaz gruosi started the trend of using them for his brand deGrisogono and now you even find them with cartier. so i say it depends a black diamond is not equal a black diamond(like a white diamond is not the same as a white diamond kwim) and the poster above is right a perfect piece of black diamond jewellery can go into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. so if you love them and they are natural then go for them i can imagine the necklace to be quite striking
