Price difference on bags in same leather type but different colors?

Dear TPF members, I am new to the forum, thanks for all of your advices and comments about Hermes!

Around end of April, both my friend and I were offered an Ostrich mini Roulis in different stores in the same city. Her was a Gris Perle, while mine was a Nata, its interesting to find there is a price difference around $1,000 USD between 2 bags (Nata is 1K more). Its normal for the price difference of various types of leather, but I seldom heard of price difference among colors.

Do you have any similar experience? Pls. share!

I also found a price difference of 1.8K between a shiny alligator mini Roulis in noir and a Matte alligator mini Roulis in Mimosa (Mimosa is the more expensive one), but I thought the difference is between Shiny and Matte alligator rather than the colors? Any idea?

There is definitely a difference in price between matte and glossy.

There is no price difference due to color. There must be something else different between the two bags. Leather, size, specialty hardware (enamel, lizard inlay, Diamond), exact style type, LE details, currency, and price increases could be the cause.

Thank you，both Mini Roulis Ostrich are in same currency, bought in end April, same hardware in permabrass, basically everything is the same except the colors.
Somebody told me sometimes a white color bag could be more expensive, really curious of it，

Agreed with you for the Matte / Glossy alligator’s price difference，thank you！

If it’s truly exactly the same, then someone got a pricing error, which happens but rarely (H could have neglected to update a SKU in the system after a price increase). Would be interesting to see both receipts and both bags.

Good point, will ask my friend to double check with her receipt, I will also find a chance to mention to my SA to see if he has an answer. 1K price difference on the same bag in different color is quite significant, but I really don’t want to bring trouble to my friend just in case her bag is the pricing error :(

I’m guessing your friend is just misremembering. Regardless, I certainly wouldn’t bring my SA into it.
Interestingly, the pricing thread has the same discrepancy in USD.

Thanks for your advice for not bringing the SA into it. You are right, i don’t want to make it too complicated.
The pricing discrepancy on the pricing thread is really weird too, is all the price included tax or not?

On the topic of price difference, although it was in jewelry, I bought a piece a couple of months ago and 2 days later it dropped in price!!!!! I asked my SA and they had no clue why their system changed the price.

I am sorry to hear about this! Was it around the time of price change at the beginning of 2023?

Not sure which currency area you are in, but this does happen. Sadly having Hermes in a country doesn't guarantee a stable national currency.

@H Route , as mentioned by @acrowcounted, for Hermes, different colors never lead to a different price (when leather + all other specs are the same). But in your specific case, you mentioned it's Ostrich. There are in fact currently 2 Ostrich "leathers". One is "Ostrich" and the other is "Boreale Ostrich" (which I think is some sort of special / specific dyeing and/or processing method, but don't quote me on that I never figured that out in detail). I don't know for sure if one is more expensive than the other but they are distinguished (i.e. when ostrich products show up on hermes.com they are labelled "ostrich" or "boreale ostrich") and their product reference codes are different. For mini lindy for example, the "boreale ostrich" one is product code H080132 whereas the "ostrich" is H079204. Very interested to see if you and your friend can check your receipts and see different product codes for your Roulises that may suggest this is the case!

ETA: I believe H077778 is the code for the "boreale ostrich" mini Roulis

ETA again: yep I think this may be it. You can see the following Calvis on the Australia website showing different prices between the 2 types of ostrich. Boreale is more expensive
