Preowned diamond ring

I would buy pre-owned jewelry from a reputable source, and would not care if it was lucky or not. Since you love it and felt that it was a good deal, that's all that matters. Depending on the stone size and amount spent, I would ask the store for some type of certificate or statement stating the color, clarity, cut, and carat, and would consider getting it appraised elsewhere for piece of mind.

I would definitely recommend that you do this! I think it's customary that if you spend more than $500, you should get a certificate, especially when it's a diamond.

If you want any more info that I can give you on the price or colour clarity etc you can feel free to PM me :)

I would probably do that thanks...

Ita. wear it and love it and whenever you look at it, smile.

While looking to upgrade I found my my ring preowned and wouldn't let the fact that's it's preowned bother you. I see it as having a longer history and it's just like how I love older vintage Jewelry and some people love vintage cars and bags. Plus I paid probably half of what it would have been at tiffany so I'm a happy camper all around :)

Thats what i thought too..i like it that the band is thicker than the new ones being sold nowadays..gold becomes thinner in the years...

don't buy in! that's superstition and a complete waste of your mental energy. my wedding band was preowned, and i love it. oh, and my tennis bracelet was preowned, and i love it. and my solitaire necklace was preowned, and i love it.

buying used is a good way to save money and get more for what you pay for.

Ita! My Tiffany wedding band, .32 cttw Tiffany dbty solitare, Cartier Love Bacelet and a ton of other pieces are preowned. I have pieces as old as 1850. Those pieces had numerous owners over the years, and I still love and wear them. Enjoy your ring and don't let anyone rain on your parade!

I have lots of preowned jewellery, simply because I find a lot of newer pieces don't grab me. I buy from a place that's been in existence since 1770 and have a wonderful relationship with them.

I love all my pre-owned pieces. Firstly, they never look anything but new and secondly, I really like the fact that they were pre-owned and have had their own adventures before coming home with me!

Any jewellery you have will have both good and bad memories attached to them. I think the purpose of jewellery is to adorn you as you make your way through the good and bad things, making you look beautiful no matter what. When its time with you is over, it's passed on.

If you love your ring that is all that matters. Honestly. Don;t worry about what may have happened to it in the past. It's with you now. Let it bring you joy.

agree....look at all the celebs who wear vintage jewelry
and I think any diamond you would buy would be preowned (the stone, not the setting)

if you have concerns about the lack of a certificate, you can go to an independent appraiser and he/she can apprise color, cut, clarity and give you a value on it

I wouldn't let it bother you. I too have preowned jewelry and I just clean it up and forget about any previous history it may have had. It's mine now.

I just read about someone who received a 400 year old ring, sounded fantastic, and I thought to myself - that's a lot of owners over those 400 years.
It brought to mind those large expensive diamonds/pieces that are famous and sold and resold over the decades to the "rich an famous".

I was thinking that maybe old rings are of better quality than newer ones. I have my moms old ring..yup there were some oxidizing stains on the prongs but it still holds on well to the diamond..i hope the claws of mine wont get broken or something...

A lot of older rings are indeed better quality and craftsmanship than the newer ones, mostly because what you buy new (unless you go custom made) is manufactured in a factory and very thin. Even though gold does wear down over time, it was usually better made back in the day than it is now.

I like to buy jewelry and I don't really make any distinction between preowned and new. It simply depends of the piece and where I find it.

I think it's best to buy new jewelry new Asia mostly Chow Tai Fook, Luk Fook because there's so much choice and great value. But I also like to buy preowned with Christie's or other auction house especially for higher end brand such as Cartier, Van Cleef and Tiffany's, it's a way to get items that are no longer available and for a cheaper price.

I don't think it's bad luck at all to buy preowned (for so many reasons).

As for the certificate I wouldn't bother with it unless you spent a fair amount of cash on your ring. You would just be spending extra money and time on a piece that you already love and own.

And I would love to see a picture of your ring!

cheers

There's an old Eastern European way to get rid of bad juju. Turn around 3 times and spit. Try that if you have any doubts, give the ring a thorough cleaning and remember, whatever its past, the ring is a gift to you, given with love. There's no way anything negative could be associated with it.

Many congrats on your anniversary.
LOL! Just perfect!
Reminds me of My Big Fat Greek Wedding!
