Popular Designer bags with outside functional pockets?

Hello everyone!

I've been traveling a lot lately with my family of 4. I'm in charge of the passports, boarding passes, sightseeing & navigation. Which means I need a bag with an easy access outside pocket to put maps & boarding passes (and still keep my wallet inside my bag).

Strap drop also plays an important role. It should have an 8 to 10" drop

Of late I can't find popular designers' bags that meet my criteria.

Makes me wonder if these bag designers travel at all or do they have people to get things for them? The least they can do is give us an extra outside pocket for the amount of money we are paying for the bags.

Help!

I agree. EVERYTHING the designers are making right now is a short-strap under-the-armpit tote. Anything with a LONG strap is a tiny useless swing pack. When you travel, a bag that hits about at the hip is perfect as you have access to it without having to take it off and set it down somewhere. And you can cross-body it and have both hands free. And keep up with it more safely. And we need outside AND inside pockets.
I am on the same quest. And looked thru these posts, and still on the same quest.

Expensive but good for travel is the Chanel Cerf tote. Outside pockets the width of the bag and a shoulder strap that detaches. Inside zip pocket too, if I remember correctly.

I am still on my quest for the perfect travel bag.

Sometimes I think - do these designers really travel at all? Or do they have a girl friday who gets things for them (maybe they'd also wish for outside pockets).

Take for example LV. They say they're the pioneer in travel. Notice the absence of outside pockets on most of their bags?

If they don't want to ruin their design, they could have at least put one at the back of the bag!

I didn't go on the purchase a Prada Nylon Messenger because of the obvious absence of an outside pocket at the back.

And why does Miu Miu NOT have an adjustable shoulder strap?
I know there are a lot of useful and very affordable bags out there that are super useful (like in ebags). But I adore designer bags!!!! So help me!

Sometimes these designer bags frustrate me to no end because amidst their very simple construction they charge an arm and a leg!

But I will not give up on designer bags! I'll just wait til they come up with something for my purpose.

So for now I am ok with longer strapped bags.

I so love my Goyard Fidji though. Super lightweight. Almost no strain on my shoulders. Easy access - but NO OUTSIDE POCKET!!!!!

I may have found my travel bag - the YSL downtown in medium!

- many thanks to the YSL forum

Now i have to wait til we go on a trip again. There's no YSL anywhere to where I live...... :crybaby:

There's only one pocket on the outside but it's heavenly---the Balenciaga City!

I love and have the City, but I don't think it fits the bill here. The outside pocket is too small for boarding passes and maps (though great for things like keys or cell phone), and the shoulder strap doesn't always stay on the shoulder. The Balenciaga Purse fit these requirements better, but is discontinued.

Very interested to see more options, since I love an over the shoulder bag and too few of them have outside pockets.

How about a Gryson

or my favorite with a strap

Tutu

Signature metal hinged hardware, handle straps, adjustable shoulder strap, exterior front zipper pocket, exterior front slide pockets w/ magnetic snaps, exterior back slide pocket, interior back zipper pocket, interior front slide pocket, logo zipper pull 14 x 5.5 x 10 | #10402F

There are like these hidden pockets (north south) on each side of the bag that snap close. You can see them on either side of the patent zipper pocket. They are where those brass rivets are. The front patent pocket is attached at the top and on the bottom so there is an opening that you can slide like a small newspaper behind the pocket. The strap is adjustable and removable.

I have the Clio, which is the larger version of this one and has a lot of room where you can unzip the bottom to make the bag larger. The back side has a large exterior pocket that has a foldover flap, no zipper so you can reach in quickly. The only draw back is that with all that strength, well she's not at light as a feather. But a gorgeous bag.
