Do you know how they want you to pay the deposit? If it is by bank wire, dont do it. I paid a deposit for a VCA item in Paris, they didnt end up getting the item while I was there so I asked for a refund. It took several weeks and a huge headache to deal with the refund back. It didnt seem to be a priority to them. I did get my refund, but I won't ever do that again with a bank wire. At least a credit card would offer some protection and a direct refund back to the card.

The only time I paid a deposit was when I wanted to buy the clash bracelet and I wanted to secure a piece not instock, before the price increase (IIRC). That was through credit card and it was also in my home country. If anything, I can always drive down in 20mins to the SA.

Yes it the refund part that likely is no fun, as what eggz has shared, especially when you’re in a foreign land and all you want is no trouble. This is assuming the worst of course. But it’s this kind of potential baggage that we want to avoid during vacation.

If the deposit is refundable or transferable to any other item in store… I would.
I don’t ever expect a store to “hold” an item for longer than 24 hours. It’s not fair to a person who walks in, ready to purchase… and the person who had the item on “hold” may not ever show up.
I own a small retail store and can assure you the amount of customers who actually purchase items on “hold” is about 5%
