Please talk to me about layering!

Now I buy what I like, but I don’t make many errors, as I know my style.
This is the secret!
I love seeing other people's signature styles, as well. It says so much about their personalities.

On the subject of layering, I seem to have exhausted this matter and not gotten anywhere. Back in Cos and I tried on the hybrid skirt (yet again) and the cropped hoodie. The only time I liked both those pieces was the first time I tried them on (the skirt made me look taller than I am, lol, and I love hoodies any way I can get them). Every subsequent time I've tried them on has been a failure, though. The more I saw myself in those pieces, the more I realized that neither really work on my frame. I love them on other people, so it's a matter of my build and proportions just not working for this style. :shrugs:

Within my own wardrobe, I've tried layering pieces to get the same effect. I ended up looking messy and boxy. I don't have things that layer nicely together as they're all similar lengths and textures.

I've definitely learned a lot about how to layer so it looks intentional and interesting, without looking messy. I just don't have the right bits and bobs to make this work right now, but will keep this in mind whenever I do go shopping again.
The pictures and ideas everyone has shared on the thread have helped a lot, so thank you all very much for that.
