You should definitely try out WhiteFlash. I had a custom ring (Leon Mege style) made there and it turned out beautifully. Plus you'll save yourself sales tax. I agree with all the other posters...you aren't getting much for your $ with the ring you posted.

You should be able to find tons of jewelers there. I'd try local ones though and online ones - not chains. My brother's wife's ring is similar to the one you posted - but it has 3 rows of pave diamonds, with a 1ct center and a halo around it. It sparkles like crazy and the center stone is very nice. They paid about the same as the one you posted. I think there are better deals to be found. Don't settle! Also, did you think of looking in pawn shops? Big cities often have great finds at pawn shops...

Hello everyone :)

Thank you much for everyone's opinion and advice, I apprecite every single one!!

Now, here's the deal:
We have decided to lower our budget due to "unexpected circumstances", SO, since I don't want to "settle" for a very small stone/ring, I was thinking to purchese a pretty micro pave diamond setting and for now have a moissanite on it! Once our situation changes, add a 1ct diamond!!!

What do you think? Whoever has moissanite, please give me the 'good and the bad'...and pics if possible.

Much, much appreciated :)

Thanks ALL!!!! :)

I have heard that moissaniteco.com has some very nice choices. I've never seen their stones in person, but I've read that moissanite can be yellow or green or grey, and that moissaniteco is more careful about sending out whiter stones than some other companies. I believe you can buy moissanite at most JC Penney stores, so you could always take a look there and see what you think.

I've also heard and read great things about Asha - they are lovely in person too. Google it and see what you think! Good luck!

And don't worry - there are a million reasons not to sink your BF's whole life savings into your engagement ring. And you can always upgrade your stone and/or your setting for an anniversary or something!

I would suggest this over moissonite. Moissonite is a stone in its own right, but as a diamond replacement, not so great (IMO). It has a different "personality"--sparkles differently (higher refractive index, I think? or something??) and many have a green tinge to them.

Ashas are gorgeous. I have one in a pendant and love it, it's every bit as beautiful as my natural diamond. I think their site is betterthandiamond dot com?

Moissanites can be quite expensive...have you considered a colored stone? You could always change that in the future if you wanted a diamond, and you could reset your original into a pendant.

I like moissanite- I think it is different than diamonds, but really pretty and a lot of life to it. I'd like something in it for me. It's not to badly priced either- all the rings below are about or less than 1k in 14K white gold w/ pretty settings. That's actually less than I've seen department stores carry for prices.

There used to be a site called Bella Jewelry but it won't come up anymore. They had a ton of great stuff w/ good prices.

What about a ring like this- similar in style and size to what you picked out?

This one is similar, but w/ an oval:

Here's another oval w/ a split shank setting, which you picked out initially:

and a round w/ a split shank:

go to shaneco.com you can get a GH/SI2/I1 1ct for about 3000 on there. no need for smaller diamonds.

the 5/8 center is similar to my .42 H i1 and i only paid 600 for it.

If you are on a budget i say a G Si1/2 is perfect.

damn that is an amazing ring! Personally i'd go with something smaller, Big cocktail rings are nice but you're going to have to wear this everyday. Let us know when you find the perfect one :) xx

I bought from Moissanite Co recently and received it the other night. I found this board when I was looking for pictures of moissanite beforehand, actually.

It's the sparkliest thing ever, so if that's not your thing, I'd avoid it. I love it, though - it really cuts down on my productivity at work because I just sit here and flash my rings a lot.

As for yellow, I've seen a very little bit in really hazy lighting. Also, the kind of sparkle seems to change in different lighting - at work, it's colored sparkles, but at home with my flourescent bulbs, it seems to be less colorful but still sparkly. I may be wrong; I'll have to stare at it more and report my results.

Also, Bella Jewelry went bankrupt last month. Moissanite Co is definitely the way to go.

Honestly you can get a good quality stone for over a carat for less then the ring that you posted with not so great diamond qaulity. I would suggest working directly with a jeweler who specializes in diamonds. Here is the website of my jeweler in the NYC diamond district: http://www.idjewelryonline.com/index.php

They only carry good quality stones and have extremely competitive prices. They have the basics on the site but if you call and talk to them about what you want and what you can spend they will give you a better price then whats listed online. They can also design any style ring for you. If I were you I would get the best quality center stone that I could afford and then when you have more money to spend you can always upgrade or add other diamonds around it. In my opinion there is too much going on around the center stone in the ring you posted and it detracts from the stone it self. Go to the I.D.Jewelryonline.com and give them a call....they are really great to work with and have such great prices and quality. You definitly don't have to "settle" you can get a beautiful good quality ring for less then your budget. Good luck!

Thank you again everyone :)
I am deifinitely considering the moissanite...

Has anyone had any experience buying from themoissanitelady?
I have sent a quote...lets see what kind of price it would be...

Again, thank you for all of your help so far. I will keep you uptaded.

Im a lover of Goodoldgold.com.

Whiteflash has great diamonds but their craftsmanship in rings is less than stellar. And in my experience MUCH less than even mediocre.
