Hi babes, I'm thinking of getting a Speedy B 25 either in Monogram or Damier Ebene. I already owned a Damier Ebene Neverfull and a monogram Neonoe MM in Coquelicot.

I know a Speedy in Damier Ebene will be easier to maintain and take care as compared to the one in Monogram where I have to deal with the vachetta leather. At the same time, I am thinking of experiencing the whole pattina process. Can you babes please give me some advice?

What type of climate do you live in? Do you want to be able to use this bag year round? Also, how do you see yourself using this bag?

I love my Speedy B 25 in Damier Ebene because I live in a place with all four seasons with a decent amount of rain and snow. This way, I can still use my Speedy all year. I use my Speedy in day-to-day life and I plan to use it as my "day bag" when I travel. I think the DE print can be a bit dressier than monogram, so I like that I can use it with almost any outfit, which is especially useful when I travel and you end up going from sightseeing to dinner and other various activities.

Both of them are great options though!

Speedy looks great in both prints. I personally like the classic monogram look more.

I would agree with the above post. Climate conditions can be a good deciding factor. I use my DE Print bags in winters. There is something about how feminine monogram print looks with summer dresses. Good luck deciding. I have never had problems with maintaining vachetta.

What kind of style/wardrobe do you have?

I generally like wearing collared sweaters, cardigans/camis, simple pattern blouses, etc., and I didn't think monogram + vachetta vibed that well with my outfits, so I went with DE.
On the other hand, if you have a more boho style, with a lot of fun prints, distressed denim, etc., I think the monogram is cuter.

i own several Speedys, Monogram, Damier Ebene, Epi and Demin. I get the most compliments on the Damier Ebene through out the years it still looks brand new. My Epi has just a couple of scratches, the demin is on loan to my Daughter, my Mono 25 I use maybe once a month and my 30 is my oldest bag which I only use when we have bad weather. So like one of the above posters weather conditions and other factors may assist with your decision such as do you wear clothes with prints, stripes, flowers etc. further would you totally be happy with the patina once the mono speedy truly ages etc. I have attached a picture of my mono 25 and 30 and of the Ebene 35.IMO there is no wrong decision, just go with the one that makes your heart sing or at least makes you smile. 068D9477-9D04-4CA5-899D-396FD15845B9.jpeg

It's summer for me all year round and I intend to use it as an every day. I do agree that DE looks more classy and elegant and Monogram is more casual. Do you think Monogram suits formal occasions as well?

Any tips on maintaining the vachette? :)

I'd say my style is more on the feminine side. I wear a lot of dresses with laces, pleats on work days. However, during the weekends, I am more dressed down - denim shorts with sneakers. So hmm :/

Loving your collection! I love your Mono 25. The honey brown is so on point. How long did the pattina process takes? And will it eventually turned to a darker brown (like the one in the middle)?

I have the Speedy B25 in DE and it has held up really well. I don't think either is a bad choice; it's up to you whether you're prepared to deal with vachetta and can accept the patina that comes with time.

I may be in the minority here, but I don't think any canvas bag looks formal. I use my LVs more than any of my other bags because they're workhorses; I have three NF MMs, a NF GM, my Speedy and a Neo Noe. Love them all, but they're not dressy. I see them all as casual bags.

If I'm getting dressed up and going out (in the post-Covid world), I'll reach for one of my Dior lambskin clutches or another more formal leather bag if I need a bit more room.

My Speedy 25 is at least 10 years old and I use it at least twice a month. For me the patina is perfect, I wish it would stay just as pictured. It really depends on usage, weather condition, the type of leather used as each leather has its own characteristic and if it’s been treated or a sealant added.(I haven’t used any sealants or protective coating to any of the Speedys) IMO most will eventually turn darker(hopefully not as dark as my Speedy 30)s/b I purchased my Daughter“s first speedy a little more than 13 years ago in the Ebene it still looks brand new and she doesn’t baby her bags. I hope the above helps with your decision.

You will get many different opinions here, but my tip is to just leave it alone and let the patina develop as it will. It will give your bag character and be your own. And, if this past year-and-a-half has taught us anything, it's that life is short and to wear the good stuff with abandon, LOL. The good news is that if it gets too dark for your liking, you can have the leather replaced if the canvas is still good. It may not be inexpensive to do that but it should be less than a new bag, especially with the price increases that happen multiple times a year.
