Thanks for the replies!

I called CS and it sounds like they have/will have a black mini duffle without grommets too. I am also thinking about the gray, which she said may be more of a taupe gray. If I love the bag, I might get two, but I'll have to see how proportioned it is on me.

Anyway, I found the pic of the black. The pic filename included the gold hardware style ar, but the pic shows silver. :shrugs: The bigger duffle I saw at Nordstrom had gold hardware, IIRC. So if I get the black mini duffle, I'll have to verify hardware color.

Here are the 3 bags I'm considering at this point:

They are all the same size, I think, even though my pic above is off a bit.

The CS rep said she could not see any new urbane crossbodies, so that is not an option for now.

I think I might like the taupe gray, but the one that is probably most practical is the plain black. I'll just have to see them in person. The gray leather looks really rich in the pic. :graucho:

EDIT: Just did a jacket-bag pic comparison, and I'm leaning toward getting the two plain mini duffles in gray and black, since I already have two fancy black bags. Unless I fall in love with the grommets when I see them. :-s Would definitely have to wait for a PCE or sale in that case.

I just looked at these 3 in a store today: plain black mini duffle, black mini with grommets, olive mini with grommets. Unfortunately, I think the bag will be too small for me but I still think it's so cute.

As far as grommets staying in style, I also looked at some very high-end bags and many of the really expensive designer bags have grommets. Sortof like when lots of bags had the studs. I wouldn't worry about the grommets going out of style - I love the look they give a plain bag.

Do you remember if the plain black one had silver or gold hardware?

I found a pic with silver hardware, but it had the ar color code which is gold on other bags. Then I found this bag on zappos which clearly has gold hardware:

EDIT: Just called Coach CS and they have no plans to come out with silver hardware on the black mini duffle. It has the amber hardware.

So now I am down to the gray plain bag and the black grommets. I think the grommets are too fancy for some of my jackets, but I think I'll take them into the store and see what I think of the combos.

Thanks again for everyone's help!

Decision made! (Sort of.)

I went to the Coach store and saw an assortment of mini duffles. The green grommet one won me over! Such a beautiful color! I didn't see it as olive or gray at all. To me, it looked like a beautiful sage green. I guess it will change color in different lighting. Olive came home with me. :D I will find lots of creative ways to style outfits with her. The color works great with dark blues and black. This is my first green bag.

I ordered the black plain mini duffle even though it has the burnished amber hardware. We looked at the brindle one in the store and decided the hardware wasn't THAT gold - more like a brownish nickel, and very close to the antique nickel. Hopefully against the black leather, it will be neutral enough to read as pewter or silvertoned. We'll see.

The gray one was just... gray. Not taupe like I'd hoped. I'm still in the market for the perfect taupe or ivory bag. Black will have to do for now.

LOVE the bell shape and size of the mini duffle!

Congrats!! I love the mini with grommets. I think the grommets just give the bag a little sass or something. I also love the shape and size of the mini d.
Enjoy :)

I need opinions though. With the grommets and the color, it doesn't go with as much as I hoped it would. It could easily be my "tee shirt and jeans" bag, and I guess I could wear leggings more often although I would need more long tops... anyway, the motivation for buying it was how well it went with this black leather jacket:

Do you think this is too much, with the zippers and the grommets? (There is a single pocket zipper on the side of the jacket with the bag - you can't see it in the pic.)

I love the color with the jacket - I just wonder if there are too many details with the combo.

This is a jacket I would wear all the time, so if the olive grommet is my "go to" bag for this jacket, I would get a lot more use out of it.

What do you all think?

(BTW, it looks more olive gray in natural light than it did in the store. Still love the color because it is light-ish and not too brown.)

I think the bag looks great with the jacket! It is a nice color contrast. I don't think there's too much detailing on it. If there was zippers on the bag too I'd probably say that's too much, but the grommets are different.

The black mini duffle came today. It's a keeper!

The metal on the black duffle (ar) is neutral enough to go with silver jewelry. It seems like more of a gunmetal except on the zipper, where it's more of an antiqued brass. You'd have to see it IRL to decide for yourself.

Thanks for the replies about the jacket. :D
