I've been on the lookout for the perfect small black leather bag with silver hardware.

A while ago I got studded penny, which is wonderful, but a bit fancy for some outings.

Now I'm considering the new bleecker mini-duffles and small urbane crossbody. Here are the pros and cons:

Black mini duffle with grommets:

Looks really cute
Love the round bottom
Seems nice and big for a small bag
Love the mod photo!
Not as versatile as a plain bag
A little fancy, would it duplicate stud penny niche?
Is it dressy enough for a work event?
Is it too much like my fabric poppy cinch?
I may have to get another simpler black bag later anyway, but this is the heaviest-use niche, so maybe it makes sense to get another black bag

Small urbane crossbody:

Love the leather!
Not available with silver hardware, I would have to wait for it and it may never come out
Style is more versatile than grommet mini duffle
Not sure if pebbled leather would make it less versatile
It would probably be the last black bag I need until it wears out

So, should I go for the grommet mini duffle, or continue to wait for the perfect plain yet slightly interesting black bag with silver hardware? (Something like urbane.)

Would the grommet mini-duffle be an ok bag for work style-wise? Or is it way too casual?

Will the grommet mini duffle become dated soon? Or will it hold up like Bal?

Does it duplicate any of my other black bags too much? Here is a pic:

Left: model with grommet mini duffle. This is what made me think it could be dressy. :shrugs:

Right top to bottom:

Grommet mini duffle
Urbane crossbody (currently only available in gold hardware)
Studded penny purse (mine, studs are black - not silver)
Fabric siggy poppy cinch drawstring (mine)

Thanks for any help or opinions!

I had the small urbane crossbody and returned it because it was REALLY small. I hated returning it because it was such a cute bag.
I think I would go for the duffle based on what you have. That seems like a good size and I love the grommets.

Urbane Crossbody.

I'm not sure if you're open to other ideas, but have you looked at the madison small Georgie? It comes in black w/ silver hw. It's a nice "little big" bag. I saw it on sale at Macy's.

I think mini duffle is fine as a work bag. It's different enough from penny. The grommets are more toned down than the silver studs which makes it more versatile. Urbane is more sleek and definitely appropriate for work. You should consider which will be more functional for you.

Agreed. The Georgie is the first bag I thought of as well. Got mine from Macys since the discount was too good to pass up.

Thanks everyone! I'll try to check out the mini duffle next week.

Thanks for the georgie suggestion and the urbane flap feedback. I don't really want a satchel (or top handles) for this niche. I think a top zipper or an easy-open flap like the turnlocks would be best for me, and I have enough turnlock bags.

I have always loved the classic duffle, except for the leather and the price. I loved the leather on the bleecker duffle when I saw it, but I didn't need another medium bag. This mini-duffle might be perfect! We'll see....

From the 2 you have I think the mini duffle will work better!

I have another suggestion. The Madison flap shoulder bag. It's a medium size bag but on the small size, but fits a lot. I got my first one because I loved the leather type (patent tortoise) and after I carried it for a week, ended up buying 3 more (scarlet, blk with gold hw and blk python with silver hw)

Here's a pic of the python with silver hw

Mini duffle. I don't think the grommets make it fancy at all. I actually think they give it an edgier, casual feel without being just boring all black. I think the grommets will stay in style. I personally don't consider them to be too trendy :)
