After handling the Dionysus, I'd have to say the Chanel Boy. It's simply a very well made bag. (Congrats on your choice, hope you get tons of enjoyment out of it!)
Please help me decide: Gucci Dionysus or Chanel le boy?

Thank you so much for all your helpful comments, ladies and gents! 
You will be surprised what happened: I ordered the Gucci Dionysus - and I decided to return the bag.
It was a tough decision since I love the design of this gorgeous purse. But somehow I got tired of the tiger sporn (on the clasp) within a few hours of owning the bag. And the color in natural light was more brown-beige than grey. The piping on the edges (black rubberized piping, like glue) put me off the bag. And at the end I was not sure if the red suede parts of the bag will be too high maintenance for my liking.
I decided to go for a Gucci tian card holder instead (supreme canvas/red leather) and will be buying a Gucci soho disco bag next month to feed my Gucci craving.
I purchased a pre-loved small boy bag from 2014 with herringbone/small chevron quilting.
I would like to post a picture of the Chanel boy bag and the Gucci item I bought but need to figure out how to do that.
I'm surprised myself that I decided for the boy bag at the end but I couldn't resist this gorgeous boy. Chanel is Chanel. KWIM?
I'm head over heels for my new boy bag.
@Christofle: It is indeed very well made. The Dionysus is a high quality bag as well but I can see there's a difference quality wise compared to the Chanel boy bag.
@karenab: I totally understand that you're tempted by this particular Gucci style but I have the feeling the boy bag has more staying power than the Dionysus. I could not justify having both.

I'm glad you got it out of your system. Often it needs to come home for us to really know what we think. If I ever caved I would definitely get it from a dept store so I had the option to return if I felt it was a mistake. Yes the Chanel boy to me is still special. With so many variations it's a matter of finding the right one for you if boy bags are your style.

I was surprised myself that the boy bag is my style. I thought I'm more into my beloved classic Chanel flap bags (which are still my absolute favorite bags). Surprisingly the boy bag is my style and I couldn't be happier with my purchase.
Please keep me updated if you go for the Dionysus or not.

I know the Chanel is more timeless, but I don't feel the quality is up to scratch, but I do love the design. Whereas I loved the Gucci from the get go, but am worried it could be considered a trendy piece, as I only collect classic bags. I must say that I am impressed with the quality of the Gucci in comparison.
I have included photos of both bags to give you an idea of what I am referring to.
