You ladies are just wonderful! Thanks so much for the ideas. I am going to see the jeweler tomorrow and explore some options. I still may go w/ a Ruby/Peridot combo but find a setting that makes the Peridot more inconspicuous while paying more attention to the actual color of both stones more so to downplay the duo of colors. I am particularly looking for a setting w/ a main ruby cushion cut surrounded w/ 2 diamonds on either side w/ a few small Peridots on the lower base. Hopefully it'll make it look more like a rose and less like watermelon.
 
What about if you put your birthstone inside the band? I have seen this on some jewelry, where a tiny gemstone is hidden inside a bracelet or whatever, and maybe with an inscription beside it, that would be a cool idea without it being so mismatched!

Love this idea! Just a small peridot on the inside of the band would be so special & personal.
