I saw it initially in the Madison Ave store and loved it. It was limited edition done only for the US stores. I wear it with a vintage boucle sellier and a watch with a stainless steel band...

Tiffany sterling isn't a bit different from Hermes. It will ALL scratch because even adding the alloys to make it stronger doesn't toughen it up that much. Also, sterling by its very nature means that it will tarnish. If worn enough, the super-bright finish will soften to a patina that's natural for the metal. If you want the endless shine, it's better to go with white gold.

^^Agree with all that; also, any jeweler should be able to buff out any minor scratches and polish off any tarnish very easily, if you did not want to send it off for H to do. Mistikat, love the oxidized look on your special ordered bracelet; would not have recognized it as Hermes, it's so different from what they normally do.

Don't quite agree with that .. Sterling silver is an alloy of silver that is guaranteed to be 925 parts / 1000 pure silver. The other 75 parts / 1000 are unspecified. It could be copper, nickle etc - all of that is perfectly legal

Jewelers use different metals (as part of the 75 /1000) to achive different results depending on whether the piece is cast or fabricated, and what look is desired eg a dark patina to make some of the details stand out

So, not all sterlings are created equal...

Also, it is perfectly legal and common to use an anti-tarnish coating, sometimes, again depending on look/effect

That said, all sterling scratches & tarnishes (unless coated) but buy an inexpensive rouge cloth (at jewelry store) to shine up a piece and remove tarnish

Yes, any jeweler can polish out the scratches, I would not pay Hermes prices for that service . It might be $30 at a jeweler, but I bet you'd pay several hundred through H. Designer brans often try yo gouge you on service like that - I just had Cartier quote me $525 !!!!! for a replacing a watch battery

baileylab, they don't sell the jewelry cleaner but it's a well known brand and you shouldn't have any trouble finding it. I think a large jar is under $20. I personally prefer my silver to have a light patina - I don't like it blindingly clean. In fact, I just got a special order H bracelet of oxidized, distressed silver. I know it's not for everyone (it's designed to come scratched, and heavily marked) but I really love the look and sold the identical "clean" silver bracelet I had when I got this one.

I LOVE this, mistikat. What is the piece called and how do you ask for it to be 'distressed' Thank you :flowers:

To the OP - I have the chain d'ancre necklace and it is remarkably scratch-free although, as a necklace, it tends to sit there quietly and not rattle or bash against anything so I would expect it to wear well. I am very happy with it, must be over a year old now.

oh mistikat, that SO bracelet does have so much character -- i really like it!
to baileylab, i noticed from the start that my TGM chaine d'ancre got scratched very easily, so i decided early on that that would be the look it was to have and i'm fine with it. i do keep it in its box when not in use, which helps against tarnishing. i bought it in August I think, and it's still as bright as new, just with fine scratches/wear that distinguish it from an unworn one.
i am loving the farandole necklace too (wish i had one, is what i mean!), and think that it would not get the knocks that a heavy bracelet does in normal use.

just read your answer to another post - would still love to know the name if you know, thanks

allaboutnice, the bracelet design is called Alea. It's also available in all silver without the distressing/marks. A friend who went to FSH was told that even though it was a limited piece ordered only for US stores, that Paris can make it on request, with the distressed and oxidized silver and rose gold ring. It takes about 2 weeks, I was told.

mistikat, I LOVE this!!

I have a few Hermes silver jewellery and I love them. I like the detailing that goes into the handmaking of these pieces. And to my knowledge, the silver jewellery is made with the same fineness as H's gold jewellery.

I've a couple of friends who are in the jewellery business and they never fail to notice the H silver pieces that I wear, and remark how 'solid' it is.

A piece of SS09 silver jewellery to look out for is the Pendentif Rose de Mer. You can see what it looks like in the SS09 runway show, worn by Naomi Campbell.

Thank you Mistikat - I love that bit in rose gold, it really completes the whole piece. :flowers:

I have a lot of Hemes sterling jewelry. I feel I'm paying for the design and the quality of workmanship. A piece like the Chaine d' Ancre that is often worn with another bracelet will show scratches more than a bracelet worn alone. The patina that sterling develops is part of its character - like the patina of box leather. A mirror finish won't remain that way forever on a bracelet.

I recieve many compliments on my H silver jewelry from people who have no idea what or who is Hermes. Those are the compliments I like best.
