Squee!!!!! Addy, tell me more! I am dying to buy the Ryder bag from Barneys. Does the bag slouch or does it have a bit of structure? I am trying to determine if it holds its shape once you add stuff into it. I have a preference for structured bags. Is your bag the regular or small? How is the strap? Does it support a full bag or does it look like it can break? How is the top handle? Can you fit it on your forearm or is it just enough space to hand hold? Do you find the bag roomy? Do you find the single pocket (internal pocket) a nuisance or does it function well? What about the back pocket, does it have a magnetic closure? Sorry for all the questions, I am in Toronto, Canada and I have never had the pleasure of looking at the bag in person so I want to make sure I am 100% certain before I buy. It does look so beautiful though!

It has structure and can sit up on its own. The front slouches a bit to form a smile like in my pic which I love! It is the larger size. I found the small size was really hard to get into. Strap is very sturdy. Handle is a tight squeeze for arm carry but I can do it. Super roomy. I do not use the interior pocket. The outside pocket is what is more important for me to carry my phone and keys. Outside pocket has a magnetic closure.

I bit the bullet and bought the Phillip Lim Ryder satchel. I have coveted this bag from a far and finally took the chance to buy it when it went on sale at Barneys Warehouse. At the original price and the exchange rate (I live in Canada) it was just too high for my budget. With the sale and further discount, I was able to get it for almost 60% off, so why not?

Anyway, the most expensive bag in my closet is by Rebecca Minkoff….the leather of the Ryder bag is a whole other level. It soft and supple and rich, it smells beautiful! The bag has a great functional back pocket. The magnet enclosure could be a bit tighter ( find with a bit of friction it opens) but its deep enough so your content is secure. The front zip is quite sturdy. It’s a thicker zipper and good handle. I am a fan of the thick zippers after eyeing it on the Antigona. The only drawback is there aren’t enough internal compartments, in my opinion. There is only one large single pocket. I like the idea of separation (i.e., separate sleeve for my phone, keys, lipstick) but you don’t have that. You either place things in the deep single zip pocket or dump it into the interior of the bag. A solution is to have little pouches for things but I can see how it could be annoying.

As for the bag, I was under the impression it would have a slight slouch but it’s quite structured, even with only having two feet. The metal top handle keeps the bag from falling over. The single handle is fine to use on your fore arm if you have small arms, otherwise you’re carrying it in your hand. The strap is really good and looks like it can hold weight. As for the embossed front, I really love the pattern. I find that it gives a the bag a bit of pizzazz without being too overt. I bought the bag to use for work but functions as a day/night out, which it does perfectly. The bag is large but isn’t too wide. It’s a nice size without being too over powering. I don’t think that it looks as if I am carrying a large bag. The top of the bag sits at my hip, so I can get to the bottom of the bag without have to slouch over (I am 5’8).

Overall, it’s a great investment piece, I am so, so happy with the bag, definitely recommend it!

Thanks so much for posting this! I'm also interested in the embossed bag. Would you mind posting some shots of you wearing it? I'm about your height and I'm curious. Thanks!

I'm obsessing over this bag now as there are currently several colors available on the Barneys Warehouse site. Any opinions on choosing between Cognac, Olive, and embossed Black? I think the Cognac is an elegant and versatile color, but the Olive and Black emboss seem so cool and yet still fairly neutral.

And for those who purchased the Satchel, could you please share why you chose it over the Small Satchel size?

Love the embossing! Gorgeous!

I found the zipper opening extremely hard to get in and out of...

Some fab prices here at Barneys Warehouse!

I found this little gem at the Barney's Warehouse in Hawaii yesterday. I'm absolutely thrilled with the quality; the leather is beautifully pebbled & it's extremely spacious for such a small satchel.

Bumping this thread. I saw a small ryder and fell in love with it...now thinking of taking the plunge that they are sale at Barney's Warehouse (too bad I was too slow on the double 40% off and now they're just 40% off!).

I just wish there was a different size between the regular and small. I worry the regular would be too big but the small might be too tight. Anyone have experience with the small? For reference, I also have a AW Rockie and it is just a bit on the width side but good height and depth-wise.

I have the small and find it's a good size for day to day wear. It really depends though on how much you need to carry, there won't be any spare room in the small.
