Hey PFers,

Wondering if any of you that clock in at around 5'3"- 5'3.5" in height that own Burberry heritage trenches could give any advice as to whether one should go with the mid or long length?
I've been all over the internet, and some ladies say long is the way to go and others that it will overwhelm a petite frame unless petite person is in heels.
Ideally, I'm looking for a coat that can work well with a range of skirt lengths -- over-the-knee to not quite tea-length, but almost there.

Thanks in advance for any advice (and possibly pictures! ;) ) that you lovely peeps share.

I am 5'4 and I have the Chelsea in long and I absolutely love it, it is my favourite length. It covers my knees (not lower) and as I like to wear pencil skirts I love how they do not peak out of the trench coat. The longer length is very much in right now my SA told me and I agree, I find it very chic! (Btw I am quite petite)

I’m 164cm, around 5’ 4”? Wearing the Chelsea mid length trench. It hits above the knees for me.

Here is extra petite wearing the same trench and she’s just under 5 feet, the mid length looks great on her too.

I feel like the mid length hits the perfect spot for my size. Alternatively, Burberry also does tailor coats for free, I think for a short period after you purchase it (and even if more time has passed they don’t charge too much), so you could just get it long and tailor it shorter if you change your mind.

Any updates on this thread?

I am 5'3" (a tad shorter than that actually) and desperately looking around for a good above-the-knee trench coat that's preferably dark pink. My favorite trench that I own is beige and measures around 31.5" long from shoulder to hem - that's the length I am aiming for ideally. I thought that shorter styles for regular people would work, but they are way too boxy. I really need a mid-length that's made for a shorter person, not a short-length made for a regular height person. To my knowledge, Burberry doesn't do Asian sizing?

Here's a photo of me in the Soft Trench from Club Monaco's current season, and it doesn't look terrible in the photo, but trust me, in person it looked pretty ill-fitting!

This is one of my two Burberry trenches, I think it’s the Kensington, the other is in black wool. I am 5”1 and prefer it to hit at my knee as it makes me look taller. (I think!) It fits me perfectly from the regular line. Burberry actually used to make a line for Japan called Burberry Blue. Can you try kids sizing, that might work for you. I haven’t seen a dark pink in a while though. HTH!

Yay!! I’m trying to get Burberry HQ to get me the shoulder to hem length of the Short Islington in US 0 and US 00 and it’s like pulling teeth or talking to Uber customer service. If they ever understand the question, I’ll ask about the length of yours (Kensington Mid) as well.

i Have two older Burberry trenches in leather, and I vote mid length (which I believe is above my knee). (I’ve owned other Burberry trenches (heritage and other) in the past also. I’m 5’2” medium build (and I’m trying to recall now if I had them shortened). Burberry seems to be a more square, slightly less flattering cut on me bc sometimes I sized up (I have a bigger shoulder cap). The different Burberry lines are also all slightly different fits. If you are all around small boned, I think yo have more leeway in choosing a Burberry in either length. I think it depends on the cut rather than just the height/length differential. I also have trenches from Carolina Herrera, dolce & gabbana, and LV and some vintage ones which are sleeker and their longer length looks fine. Since ankle cartilage surgery, I wear mainlh flats.

The suggestion of kids sizing was genius! Haven't yet tried on in person, but based on the sizing charts, 12 or 14 Y should work great. @periogirl28

And I wouldn't say I am small boned, but I think I have a narrow frame, which is why these short-cut trench coats designed for regular height women do not work for me. I only wear strapless bras because strapped bras always slip off my shoulders! Shoulder to shoulder I'm maybe about 13"? Or maybe they are just thin front to back, not narrow. @880

ITA with @periogirl re childrens sizes, assuming they fit your slim shoulder above ^ and hit your waist in the right place. . . I would probably be double your size in shoulder breadth alone (and I range from 40-44 depending on french versus Italian and whether the cut is trim or boxier) fingers crossed you find the right trench in the right size and length. IMO they are not easy to shorten bc then the pockets and the belt placement etc becomes disproporionate. . .

Mmm that's really good to know, about the shortening. Thank you. Burberry's HQ customer service kept reassuring me to just order a coat and that alterations are free within 3 weeks or something, and @extrapetite (Jean Wang) also blogged that she did an alteration, so I thought it was a good fallback option, just a bit more legwork for me. I will definitely keep the children's options in mind and I hope that my local boutique (Soho) stocks children's. If not, I know Farfetch does and I can always return. Again, just a bit more legwork, which is annoying.
