I remember being fairly new here and reading a post from a member who said she was dining at a not-very nice establishment and didn't have anywhere to place her expensive designer bag, so she threw her daughters coat on the floor and placed her bag on that. She specifically mentioned the unhygienic dirtiness of the floor and seemed to think her actions were quite reasonable and even cute. That's when I realized, some people are just crazy, lol. I mean, I would never put my Chanel classic flap on a dirty floor but I have been known to place an LV down by my feet. It's canvas, not the pure virgin skin of a unicorn!

Wow at that story. Another post that I still remember now is a member whose server accidentally spilt water on her new LV, leaving some watermarks on the vachetta. A big debate broke out in the thread whether she should demand compensation from the restaurant for the costs of the bag since it was now "ruined". I think opinions were split 50/50. I know, it's LV vachetta... but people, it's water.

This!!!!!!
When I first joined the forum, I lost perspective. I felt like I could only post my high end handbags especially when posters were saying such horrible things about Michael Kors whom I LOVE. Once it started seeping into my everyday life and I started neglecting handbags that I loved, I STOPPED. I had to take a break from this place.

Then, I remembered who I was-a lover of handbags. I own everything from Chanel to Gucci to Balenciaga all the way to Dooney, Michael Kors, and vintage Coach. I stopped trying to impress complete strangers on this forum which was strange because in my everyday life I could give two ****s (pardon my language) about what other people thought about me and what I wore/carried. It's so easy to lose your perspective when you are inundated with Hermes, Chanel, LV, Dior, et cetera.

Now, I post what I'm truly wearing and loving. I've been carrying my lower end handbags more than my luxury handbags because, in all honesty, I love them. They fit my style. I've been posting my Michael Kors bags as well. Some people are just uppity and snobbish. Most of the world could care less about a handbag.

It reminds me constantly that normal is relative, and makes me think about and re-evaluate where I fall under this spectrum of normalcy. Many of my purchases are straight up unfathomable to most of my acquaintances, so it was a relief to be able to come here and obsess about bags with people who understand, instead of worrying about anyone judging me.

At the same time, however, being a part of this community has made me very grateful that the people I interact with day to day are quite modest, as it keeps me grounded. It's easy to get caught up in thinking that buying a 2k, 3k bag every month is normal, and that I am actually quite thrifty in that my bags are "only 2-3k" vs 10k +. :p In reality, I am nowhere close to normal compared to 99% of the rest of the world. Being here and seeing all these gorgeous bags that I could never afford, and lifestyles that I will never be able to relate to, ironically still reminds me of how extremely fortunate and privileged I am to own the luxury goods I enjoy so much.

It also reminds me of the growing discrepancy between the 1% and the working and middle class, and all of the political and moral implications that come with it, but that's a whole other very off topic discussion! :panic::lol:

I'm always pretty careful with my bags. I wouldn't go as far as to buy a bag hook (though I've been tempted) but there are extra chairs for a reason and we never take up an entire table's worth of seating anyways. From tpf, I've been more and more encouraged in actually using them rather than baby-ing them. However, it's still definitely a struggle.

I love TPF and have been a member for years! In fact I learned so much about the various styles, vintage blind stamps, and all sorts of things. I made some great friends here as well, but having said that always best to be cautious on line. Don't buy everything you read as gospel true and understand that different cultures can have widely different perspectives, about what is "excellent condition";)

Extreme. There are 2 places I absolutely won't set my bag down on the floor: a public restroom or the subway. I've seen drunks pee themselves on the subway... I cringe every time I see a woman put her purse on that floor. I don't care if your purse is $5 or $5000 - yuck!

It doesn't mean you're not normal, it means you're not average!

I visited (for years) mostly to get information on a bag I was interested in. It seems I was visiting a lot so finally joined the group. I'm happy to be here because there is such a wealth of information. I don't know anyone in person who loves bags like I do so I kind of feel at home here.
I take care of all my things. They aren't expensive but I like them to last and still look good.
Perspective I've gained... I used to think I was obsessed about bags but my addiction is under control!!
