Just wondering all you ladies with your lovely collections (I mean pieces over $1,000 ... pretty significant pieces, not including anniversary and wedding rings!) ...

Who buys them? I mean... are most of you single or married and working and using your "own" money? Do you buy it "with" your husband (meaning he's cool with you dropping $5K + on designer pieces?) Or does he just not mind you spending the money out of your joint accounts?

In my case I'm married but there's no way in hell I'm getting any VCA from my hubby... MAYBE one day a bracelet - but if I buy the piece I'm looking at it'll be from my bonus from work and almost a gift to myself and to my daughters in the future. He may get me a gift card for Birks that I'll use towards the purchase for having my little girl next month! :) But that MIGHT cover the taxes! :) LOL. He would KILL me but I realllly love VCA and really want this for myself... I put all my bonus $$ into the family account and am selling off tons of pretty things on ebay right now to scratch up the cash! :)

Would love to know your situations just out of curiosity!!!:smile1:

Since I just graduated, I don't have the income to support $1,000+ purchases, so my husband has bought me all of my fine jewelry. My money pays for student loans and other necessities, while the rest of it is put into personal and joint savings.

Such large purchases are usually picked out together. We get one another's approval when buying luxury goods.

im a believer of the POT theory (that i made up lol) --

The pot theory:
- There is no my money or your money...ALL money made goes into the pot, who ever needs it takes out of the pot, if you dont need it you keep it in the pot...if you want something that isnt a NEED then you discusss it with other pot members and if they agree you take it.....but never ever do you think it is my money because i made it or its your money

but right now i am not contributing to the pot because Im in school.....so i guess the "real" answer is my husband and my brother and my mom/in laws pay for everything

I love them and love being spoiled, but once i start working the pot theory will be in full effect and EVERYONE (including the brother and in laws will subscribe to it) lol at least thats my dream :) Hence it's still a theory ;)

For me it's a mixture. My husband buys me pieces for holidays and birthdays and if I need a little something in between, I buy it myself. Unfortunately, I'm not good at waiting during the "in between" periods. :p

And my husband would never buy me VCA either.

Some I purchase for myself, some are purchased by my husband. There are also quite a few pieces that have been in the family for a few generations and handed down to me.

The majority of items that I've received in the last 10 years have been gifts from my husband.

I buy my own. I have very particular taste, so it would be difficult to buy for me anyway.

the Destiny's Child song Independent Women sums it up for me:
The shoes on my feet
I've bought it
The clothes I'm wearing
I've bought it
The rock I'm rockin'
I've bought it

'Cause I depend on me
If I want it
The watch I'm wearing
I've bought it
The house I live in
I've bought it
The car I'm driving
I've bought it
I depend on me

Mixture. The DH doesn't like to make mistakes--and I am fairly specific about the stuff I like and wear, so when he does buy me pieces, they aren't surprises. Most of my super high dollar items, I've purchased on my own. Occasionally, my parents have gifted me with money that has gone to jewelry.
