I got a perlee clover bracelet last year and my SA recommended me to get a medium. 8 months later the size has been a big issue and I was initially denied an exchange as it was “final sale” so I’ve been stuck with a bangle too tight. What do others do in this case? I’m not sure if I should just consign or suffer the tightness

how tight is too tight? Did you try it on before you purchased it?
Yes, and I said I wanted it looser but the SA said it was “perfect” so I just went with it. It was my first ever bangle so I didn’t really know (im in my very early 20s too so maybe he just took advantage of the fact they didn’t have a large available and thought it was my parents money anyways (it’s not))

I’ll say that… It has movement, for sure. It’s basically the way classic Cartier way of wearing it, with almost no movement but some movement to “avoid scratches”

I attached an image to show where it naturally sits IMG_3456.jpeg

It doesn't look extremely tight to me. Can it go over your wristbone? My wife prefers a snug fit on her bangles so this is about what it looks like on her, but it can go over her wristbone and there is the slightest gap so it's not completely touching her skin all around.

I think ultimately if you had the opportunity to try it on and selected a tighter fit than you wanted, it's on you. I wouldn't blame the SA or VCA for not allowing an exchange in this situation. I don't mean it in any snarky way, just from an objective POV.

It isn’t extremely tight, and it can go over the wrist bone. I think it’s fine but my new SA made a good point that im in my early 20s and my wrists may get bigger.

I never had the opportunity to try on a large perlee clover at the time and my SA at the time was saying to get the medium. VCA has a policy of 30 day exchange, they should just get rid of that policy if they don’t honor it.

I get it, VCA is strict with their return/exchange policy. I think we are similar in age and I totally understand how you feel. I do think some SAs try to say things like “you’re still young, so…” or “you can always get (something else) later on in life” to try and justify or pressure us into purchases. I’ve been there. While the size was ultimately your choice, it still acts as a learning lesson for the future. A few things I’ve figured out after having multiple experiences like this:
1. Don’t ever wear the item out of the store. This is a classic trick SAs use to avoid returns or exchanges. If you wear it out of the store, the item is deemed as “worn” and therefore final sale. It’s best not to wear it and let them box it up for you in case you have a change of heart in the following few days.
2. Ignore the SAs size recs. Buy what feels and fits right to YOU. I remember when I got my Rolex sized, I kept asking the SA to make it looser and she was like, “Are you sure?? Really…looser??” I just wanted more movement, because that’s the way I like most things on my wrist. You’re the expert on yourself, so listen to your instinct first and foremost!
3. Don’t let the pressure get to you. Take all the time you need while considering something, especially something as pricey as the perlee clover bangle. If you’re debating between sizes on anything, make sure you’re able to try on each option and take your time to see what looks and feels right to you. Never feel like you’re taking too long or wasting anyone’s time. I always used to rush, because I thought I was being a nuisance to the SAs until I realized — wait a minute — I’m the one making the purchase! You want to love and use your pieces for a long time, so it’s best to give yourself all the time you need. Even if it means trying on the piece(s), sleeping on it, and then coming back to the boutique another time.

I agree, I’ve heard the “you’re still young and have many years to buy!”, probably because they assume it’s my parents money when it’s not. SAs have assumed I’m 17/18 too, so I think they take advantage of that and believe I’m that young too and that it is my parents money.

I wish I listened to myself and just waited. It was a wedding gift and it just really bums me out that I was also told the pressure of “rarity” and there might not be another one because Christmas was around the corner.

I’ve learned now, 8 months later, that these are just all sales techniques. Pretty woman syndrome is real, and they really do prey on those who are people pleasers.

Thank you so much for your advice :-) It is appreciated immensely.

You’re learning an expensive lesson it seems! Most of us have been there in some way…

You obviously are not happy with the fit but are outside the exchange window. Does VCA offer a re-sizing like Cartier?
If not, I’d sell and eat the loss.

Oh no! Something similar happened to me with a Cartier ring that I got a while back. Fortunately, my SA allowed me to exchange it even though I'd worn it out of the store, so I got lucky there, and even if they hadn't, it wasn't a super expensive piece anyway. But from now on I've decided I'm not buying anything unless I feel good about the way it fits from the start. Over the years I've also had several experiences with Chanel bags where SAs kind of pushed me to accept/not return bags that had scratched clasps and other quality issues, saying that they were the last ones available, couldn't get more, it's not that bad, etc., and then I ended up selling at a loss and feeling lousy about it because the issues never stopped bothering me. It sucks to miss out on pieces you really wanted because they're not right for you in some way, but I learned the hard way that in the end it's even sadder to have spent so much money on something that was wrong for you when you had doubts about it in the first place.

You might consider asking your new SA if there's a resizing/remake policy like Cartier has, because that was what I'd originally planned on doing with the ring if I hadn't been allowed to exchange. If not, I think your best bet is probably selling. But if it makes you feel any better, by selling it, you might be helping someone who really wants it but can only afford pre-loved get the piece of their dreams, and it can go to a good home where it will be loved and cherished, instead of making you feel bad every time you put it on.

The right sizing really makes a big difference, be it clothing or jewellery. Have you tried on the large? Does it feel/look better?
In any event, please do not “suffer” when wearing your pieces!
I recently purchased a large in a different metal color and it’s a lot more comfortable.

A super expensive lesson! I would be happier with the fit if it had a bit more space so at least in the heat it wouldn’t feel like it’s suffocating my wrist.

They don’t offer a reading, unfortunately. So, I will probably just consign.

I think with us who love these kinda luxury things, there’s always an itch to scratch because of an inner perfectionism. And, this is my itch to scratch unfortunately. I would have exchanged it for a large back then but unfortunately I couldn’t, just makes me frustrated that I didn’t have the courage to even ask, haha. I did ask recently if it can be resized slightly and was told no.

I do agree with that, at least with preloved that someone will be able to afford it and love it. Someone with smaller wrists than me, that’s for sure! The loss definitely sucks and it is my favorite piece!

It does look snug however it doesn’t look too small imo. You tried on the piece and made the decision to move forward so this isn’t the SA fault. I don’t think it’s fair to state that SA took advantage of you. It’s ok to have buyers remorse and also you have unfortunately learned an expensive lesson. If your planning to add more Perlee pieces you need to consider will that stack be indeed to snug. If so then I would sell and rebuy in the larger size.

I am in a very similar situation as you. My wrist measures 14.6 cm, and my SA (Palm Beach VCA) insisted that the Perlee Clover XS would not fit. At the time, they only had a Small Perlee Clovers RG bracelet. From certain angles, the bracelet looks huge on me, but I only discovered that after trying it at home. I wish I had asked my SA to order an XS for comparison. My husband decided to gift me the bracelet three days before we left Palm Beach. VCA refused to make an “online exchange” for me, and I live very far from any VCA store. The lighting in the store was terrible; Rose Gold and Yellow Gold looked practically the same. I regret not checking it in natural light, as I would never have chosen Rose Gold because it blends with my skin color too much. Last month, I tried to see an XS bracelet, but the VCA store in NYC had none available, only the small size.

Thank you for the advice. My sales rep is so sneaky: “Why don't you wear it?” I spent $45k on two bracelets, and she didn't even have the decency to send me a cleaning cloth or explain why it wasn’t included in the package shipped to me.

On you, I’d definitely say an XS. That is a little big and probably does get annoying.

I wonder what can be done for us because it’s a lot of money, in my situation I’m debating between keeping and consigning still. The large has been perfect for me so far, the medium… fits. But it’s more of a cuff than a bangle because there’s no free movement.

I wear them both together and they sit apart, but not really like bangles. I have to either accept that or consign. However, it really does bother me. IMG_3573.jpeg

That is horrible! I’ve had those experiences before and it’s not nice at all. It kinda just attaches a bad memory to the piece.

Love your yellow Perlee. Wish I did not take Rose Gold. Perhaps I'll buy Xs YG used on real real one day
