Pearl vs. Diamond: Which Ring?

As much as I love the pearl on your hand, my vote has to be for the diamond. I have a beautiful pearl ring that I rarely wear because it is so delicate.

The pearl ring is beautiful, but with my clumsiness, I guarantee that it wouldn't last much longer than a month. I've managed to get some pretty deep gouges into my platinum and gold rings so I can't imagine what would happen to a pearl facing daily wear.

Love pearls, but I've had such bad luck with the pearl falling out/off.... It is truly a beautiful ring, but for durability, I vote for the diamond ring.

I think that pearls being too delicate for rings depends more on the ring's wearer than the nature of the stone itself. I wear pearl and opal rings all the time and have never damaged any of them. On the other hand my mother can manage to destroy rings of any type in no time flat. Her jeweler finally insisted that her engagement ring be reset in platinum after so many repairs and she managed to completely destroy a bezel set sapphire in under a year. The jeweler refused to touch that one as he couldn't believe that anyone could damage the surface of a sapphire so completely just through daily wear.

Thanks everyone! I almost pulled the trigger on the pearl ring, but I opted to have the designer reset the stone from my engagement ring in the same style in platinum.

Love the look of the Pearl ring but Pearls are not really good for very day rings. I prefer the Pearl ring but would pick the diamond if this is going to be worn on a regular basis.
