Which would you get? 8mm Akoya pearl & diamond ring in 18k gold, or diamond ring with .25 carat center stone set in platinum with 18k rose gold band?

From experience, pearls do not do well in rings and bracelets for daily wear as the surface/nacre would get scratched. The same goes for softer stones like tanzanite and opals. If it is to be worn for special occasions only then I would go for the pearl. If it is for daily use then I would vote for the diamond.

My husband had a gorgeous Tahitian pearl ring made for me after the birth of our daughter. Within 3 weeks the pearl popped off! The jeweler tried several times to resecure the pearl but it just never worked. After all these attempts I finally bought a second pearl and made earrings instead.

I later learned this is common for pearls in rings. Just my experience :smile1:

They're both gorgeous, but I like the pearl better (and I accidentally voted for the diamond, oops!).
Between the 2 you have shown, the pearl ring for sure...so pretty and elegant!
Pearl! Both are beautiful.
Both are beautiful. But my personal preference would be the diamond.

Thanks for the feedback!

As other members have mentioned, pearl rings are very delicate even with the most careful wearers. For this reason, I recommend the diamond ring.

I'll definitely keep that in mind, thank you! If I go with the pearl I'll remember to be careful with it and probably save it for special occasions.

Would you be able to share where the diamond ring is from? :). Very pretty

It's by Kataoka, and you can order direct from Japan or from Ylang23 in the US.

Both are very beautiful and you can't go wrong. Having said that, I had a pearly ring very similar to this one. I lost the pearl three times - I wore mine everyday for years though. Eventually I had to change the setting so the pearl screwed onto it and the jewellery used some other device to secure it as well that I can't remember. Well the next thing that happened was I lost a diamond. I haven't repaired it yet and to be honest, almost feel like the ring has been blighted. Oh! The band broke as well. So even though I voted for the pearl because it was my most versatile ring and this one is gorgeous, maybe you should go with the diamond ring.
