I'm looking into buying a pearl necklace. I'm considering between colored pearls (pinks pastel) or white. Does anyone have pics of their pearl necklaces they want to post? Whch do you prefer: colored or non-colored?

Pearls are so classic and timeless. I really want to invest in a beautiful one! :yahoo::yahoo:

i vote white if it's your first pearl necklace. personal preference but i only like the pink/pastel coloured pearls on a long necklace, not 16" or 18". white is always beautiful though!

Depends on your skin tone, white or cream is classic in my opinion. white with rose overtones with people with cool skin tones, cream for people with warm skin tones. Basically people who look better in silver jewelry should wear white pearls and people who look better in gold jewelry should wear cream.

Pink is pretty but I would save that for a second necklace, less classic.

I'm going for my first pearl necklace too!! While I love the look of the white however, I am going for a multi-coloured one for my first since I think white is a bit more formal looking and I'm usually dressed super casually. Just depends on what you what to wear it with I guess? White can look gorgeous with casual clothing too of course :D It's just that I found some gorgeous multi-coloured ones (of which their numbers are limited) whereas the white ones are always available!

I don't know if the gray tones will look good on you, but there are many tones of white to try. white pearls can have pink overtones or yellow overtones or cream overtones. you'll just have to try them! there are also many shades/intensities of cream-colored pearls.

I don't think you can go wrong with ANY color of pearls, but white is the classic. I currently have white, black, grey, pistachio, and multi. I have never worn the pistachio (although they are gorgeous), and the white are very large, so they sometimes seem a bit much. The black I have worn (I have a long strand with smaller pearls, and an 18" strand with large pearls, and I have even worn both together) probably most frequently. I am fair skinned with medium to dark hair, and I recently bought a pair of lilac pearl earrings, thinking they would be fabulous with my skin tone. Not so. They totally disappeared on me. So, as beautiful as they are, I would only get them if you are darker or olive complected.

White pearls are classic, but they definitely strike me as a more formal look. Depending on your age and style, multi or pink might work better with more looks. Colored pearls can still be worn with dress clothing, but it is more difficult to wear white pearls as a casual look. But if you are looking to mostly wear them for formal occasions or for work, then white is your best bet.

By grey, do you mean silver?

You sound like you have warm toned skin so personally I would think white white or white with some other overtone would look better than something so cool. Where are you looking for your pearls and what kind of pearls are you looking for? :)

if you have olive/tan skin tone, the champagne color will look great on you. its like a pearl with a hint of light gold color. However if it is your first purchase, a white one will be the most classic one that suits every skin tone There are different kinds of pearls, famous being the south sea pearls and the fresh water pearls.:smile1:

damieraddict- that really pops on your skin, my skin is somewhat the same tone as your, maybe a little lighter.

I'm looking at Mikimotos and David Yurman pearls. I like the big pearls too.
