You should take a look at James Avery jewelry. They have a selection of dog charms: http://www.jamesavery.com/catalog/search.cmd?form_state=searchForm&keyword=dog+charms
They offer engraving--and their hand-engraving is gorgeous. They also sell an engraveable heart charm and bracelet that's a little similar to the Return to Tiffany's heart charm. http://www.jamesavery.com/product/Smooth-Engravable-Heart-Charm/156127.uts?keyword=heart+charm

I think their sterling is every bit as good as Tiffany's, plus their price and selection is better.

Thanks! They do have adorable charms! And as you said their price is much much much better :)

I have a love/hate relationship with T&CO, I'm fully aware that you're paying for the name, but at times its pretty absurd.

I know exactly what you mean! Some years ago I was planning to buy a bracelet to commemorate a dog that I loved very much and was considering a Tiffany with an engraved charm. Something I could wear every day. I ultimately bought a bracelet from James Avery because I could get great engraving and more bang for the buck. What I paid for the bracelet, a heart charm, a paw-print charm and a third charm plus engraving came out to be less than what I would have paid for a Tiffany bracelet with one charm and no engraving.

One thing in Tiffany's favor is that they are very careful about sourcing their silver in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. They will not buy silver from mines that are environmentally disruptive. I don't know any other major jewelry company that has that commitment.

And their designs are beautiful and classic.

And something to keep in mind about James Avery: every year in late spring, after Valentine's Day, they have a sale in which you get $50 off a bracelet when you buy two charms. Alas, I was unaware of that and bought my bracelet just weeks before their annual bracelet sale.

Also have ja bracelet.
Was advised, by staff, that pearl charm might break. If added & worn daily.
So chose other option.

However, wear pearl necklaces without worry.
Less likely to be whacked against tables, vehicle doors, etc.

You could certainly wear a pearl bracelet every day, but I wouldn't get Mikimoto or other saltwater pearls for that, as the nacre can wear down to the bead over time. I'd go with tissue-nucleated freshwaters. And honestly for an everyday piece like that, I'd go with smaller, less expensive pearls. I wear stacks of stretch bracelets with little pearls almost every day and they wear very nicely, and are easy to take off.

I should add...according to the T&CO SA I've been working with:

Pearls, in fact, can be worn everyday. Pearls are known to be delicate, but Tiffany & Co. would never produce a piece that would not sustain everyday wear for a piece that could be worn often.

I'm sure the pearls wont crack or anything but as many have mentioned the luster of the pearl will be gone pretty quickly and I didnt think of this- but I sweat a lot :( I have a fitbit and I sweat under that really fast and it gets smelly where I have my fitbit (oops sorry if that was TMI- and for those that are wondering yes I shower every day and make sure to wash my body well). So I dont think the pearls and I are going to get along with me wanting to wear it on a more everyday basis rather than just special events.

Yeah, I understand that nacre and luster can wear down but I'm sure it will be significantly accelerated if I wear it on my wrist frequently. And I sweat quite easily- I wasn't aware that sweat is bad for pearls.

I actually have a stretch bracelet of pearls :) Got it for just like $5 at this cute little boutique a bit far from where I live. I love that store since the owner travels around the world for her pieces.

I think a little bracelet like the one you have is the best choice for everyday wear, honestly. And that way you won't feel bad if the pearls loose some of their oomph over time, you know? I mean I shower and sleep in mine and they're fine but it's only been two years.

What you might considering doing is to buy your memorial bracelet in all-metal. Silver or gold. Buy something with a sturdy lobster claw clasp and other sturdy soldered components. (All the bracelets I've had with fish hook or toggle clasps I've lost.) Then buy a companion bracelet in pearls or amazonite to wear with the memorial bracelet. Maybe something low-cost like you'd find on etsy. The Tiffany amazonite bracelet is strung on thread that isn't knotted between each bead. I'd be concerned that with everyday wear the string would wear from sweat and might not last. So why not buy the memorial bracelet and its charms in all-metal and then pair it with a second low-cost bead bracelet for some color? You wouldn't have to wear the bead companion bracelet all the time.

I don't have anything to offer about how a pearl bracelet would last. I recently had to say goodbye to my GSD girl and bought some jewelry to wear, 24/7, to honor her devotion to our family and how much I miss her constant presence. Dang, now I'm tearing up!
I wanted a rose gold mini paw bracelet from this site but it sold out when I revisited. I'm hoping that my yellow gold choice for my other dog will be available when I look again. I like that some proceeds go to help animals and there are several options.

I bought this with an inscription for her. It's a little large for my wrist so I've used some nylon thread to cinch it up a bit. I want the bar to remain in place for the most part. I had reservations about the chain, at first. I was thinking about something more delicate, but I ended up liking it. I also used ****** for a little money back over the sale price. Holy cow, wait for it to go on sale for less than $200.

Pearls are on strung on thread which will stretch with wear and, since it is typically silk, can be damaged by moisture like splashes from hand washing and sweat. Sweat, perfume and sunscreen can strip the lustre off pearls because they are typically enhanced to look better and the chemicals errode the treaments. Taking them off at the end of the day and wiping them with a soft cloth will help. Never wear them in the shower.

Yes, you can have them restrung, but that becomes a bottomless pit of more money spent if you have to do it more than once every few years.

Even natural pearls will wear down to have flat spots if worn enough.

For what it sounds like you want, you might be better off getting a TCO silver bracelet to put your charm on.

How old was the SA that gave you all of the cautions and warnings? What nonsense. As an older woman who has worn pearls every day, practically from birth--pearls are meant to be worn. In fact, they need to be worn, and will gain luster from the oils of your skin. Just take the same care with them that you take with other fine jewelry. Will they scratch? Sure, but most gemstones will scratch. So will gold and silver.

I wouldn't play quarterback for the Cowboys in a pearl bracelet, and I take my pearls off when I shower (to add life to the string, not because water bothers the pearl) and when I'm working out, but beyond that, buy them, enjoy them and above all, wear them. They are just the sort of casual, elegant, understated jewelry that will make you stand out from the crowd. If you wear them daily, you'll want to have Tiffany & Co check them yearly to make sure the string is still strong, and you'll probably have to re-string them at least every 2 years.
