Pear vs. old cuts vs. avc for an e-ring?

Yea the August Vintage Round (AVR) is more of a flower pattern, the AVC (cushion) is a maltese cross. I have seen both in person, they're gorgeous.

Absolutely now way would I consider the pear with those color specs.
The avc or European cut diamonds sound better.

UOTE=sooyang;20466220]Hi,
after some discussion with my boyfriend
He warmed up to the idea of getting an antique diamond! :D

We narrowed down to the following:
a light yellow pear, OEC, OMC, and AVC.

I like pear because it looks big for its carat weight and flatters my finger
shape. I am thinking about going down in color(W~Z) to go bigger, around 3 carats.
One thing that holds me back is that it doesn't seem to give off that much colored light.
It also seems to glitter, rather than sparkle.

For old cuts and avc, I like the bold flashes of color and the facet pattern.
I can only afford smaller (1.5~2carat range in AVC) diamond in this cut. :(
Since it faces up pretty small for its carat weight, I am guessing a 1.5ct will look like a 1 carat diamond.
I've seen good old cuts before when I was on an overseas trip a while ago
but am having some difficulty seeing some good old cuts in person right now.

Which one do you prefer more for an engagement ring?[/QUOTE]

I don't think I would get such a low color as the pear for an engagement ring, maybe because I am traditional but I think the symbol of flawless or as close as you can get is so nice for an engagement. If it were for me I would get the AVC of those choices because I love non-round shapes, but if you love the pear why isn't one of your options a colorless one even if it would be smaller than the yellow one?

Also, I don't want to steal the thread, but is it really true that OEC faces up small? Why is that if they are round? I thought the difference was just chunkier cuts to the facets. I have an OEC I inherited that is a little over 6mm which I assumed was about 1 carat - is that wrong? Thanks and sorry to tack a question to an opinion!

My 15 min. expired so I would like to add more in a separate post.
I did not mean to say that 1.5~2 is small but is "smaller than the 3 carat pear". If given some choices within my budget range, I could choose a diamond by shape, color, clarity OR weight. I do not intend to upgrade so I am considering both shape AND weight for my ring. A lot of people(at least on this forum) opt to upgrade in the future and get a diamond much bigger than 1.5 carats. Do they upgrade for reasons other than them thinking 1.5~2 is small? Given mainly two choices - 1.5 avc and 3 carat lemon yellow pear, I am just considering the 4 C's. But I guess I should have been more precise.
I do not mean to offend anyone.

No worries, I wasn't offended! I am not planning on upgading ever, and 12 (!) years after receiving it, I find my 2 CT round BIG, so I just don't want you to go pear just because you don't think a 1.5 - 2 would be big enough for the long term.
