paypal or credit card?

New Member here. I have been binge reading about Ebay on these threads, which has been an eye-opening experience.
I don't do it often but I made a purchase on Ebay yesterday. For the PP payment, I had to re-enter my cc number even though the number was on file. Maybe that is an additional security layer for PP.

I think it's better to use paypal and fund the payment with a c.c.

That way, if there's a dispute, if PP doesn't decide in your favor, you can go to the c.c. company.
Years ago when I used to do some buying and selling on Bonanza I set up a separate bank account with limited funds in it to be linked to PP. I had a credit card on the PP account too. I always thought if I didn't have enough funds in the bank account for a PP purchase they would use the CC. Fast forward to today. The little bit of selling I've been doing has been on Posh and they don't deposit the money from a sale into PP or my bank (unless requested). Yesterday I went to the bank to make a small deposit because I thought the account was empty. The teller told me I'd had a problem with insufficient funds but there was no penalty. I also got an email from PP later that day about the problem.
I called PP and she said they try three times to get the money from the bank before using the CC (hence the insufficient funds problem). Then I open my mail this morning and see the credit union is charging me a fee for the problem (even though the teller said yesterday there was no penalty)

Uugh
I've changed my PP to have everything come out of my linked CC

Now I will have to call the credit union and ask about this penalty.

Guess I just misunderstood the whole thing?

I actually had to use my PP account last night when I ordered a bag from FF. I don't know why, but every time I tried using my debit card directly, I kept getting an error message. It was a nightmare. This happened about 6-8 times, until I called FF directly and the rep suggested I use my PP account since my debit card was attached to it. I used it, and it worked. Something about my debit card they didn't like, but it worked when I used my PP account. Glad I have an account with them. Makes it easier.

I used to always use cc's through PP. Double protection, like BB said. Then I went to return something to LV that i had used cc through PP and went to the store to return it. After waiting one hour in line, I was told that they could not take the return and I had to ship it back to LV to get my refund. grrrr

Sorry for the wait, but this is not a PP fault. It's a Vuitton policy. At least in my country if you buy online, you must return online, not in the shop.

It’s probably irrelevant to the original post but I prefer to use my credit card over PayPal for most purchases. I find that when making returns, certain companies take much longer to process the refund through PayPal then if it were just a credit card. I understand needing the extra layer of protection though, so that would just depend on the type of purchase I’m making.

For me it was also the ease of using PP as all my cc's are attached to it. Now, my IMac stores my cc numbers and I just have to add the security code, so it's easy to use a cc now.
