the watch of a watch collector. Because of this, the investment value (ie resale value) is far more limited than a manual or automatic movement watch.

While it might not be something a watch collector would want to buy, that doesn't limit the resale market totally. There are people who don't care about whether its watch collector approved, they know its a Patek.

I've had Rolex's that retired & became nothing by scrap value. One was in brand new condition. So people thinking a Rolex only appreciates, not true. Have one now that is from the 60's. It's our travel watch, we don't care if someone steals it cause we guess its worth alot less than our good watches.

Thank you tpfers for your responses and feedback on Pateks! Great info on the quartz Hermesaholic! Made me think twice about not buying quartz movement. But I believe the pateks ladies espc the one on the right is a mechanical manually wound movement. So it should be a ok to buy right?

yes--that one is the newer model with the mechanical movement. and to vegas long legs--yes i agree. doesnt mean worthless i was just trying to make clear the distinction with regards to the watch movement part

I would certainly go for Patek, so far only my Dad and DH own them as I have not found one which suits me. For PP I would go for manual or self-winding, it's a personal preference. For your 2 options, I prefer the second.

I used to be a terrible "watch snob." But, as I've gotten older, I just want something that looks good, is easy to read, and keeps good time. Everything has trade offs, and in the final analysis, a watch is just a very functional piece of jewelry. Nearly all of my "investment" watches (Rolex, PP, JLC) have gone on to live with my DDIL.

Choose what makes your heart sing.

My husband has several Pateks so I am a bit biased. I don't have one, as I am more into Breguet. I would personally go for the Patek Calatrava, as it is a manual movement and I also find it to be more of a classic watch than the 24. IMO I think the Patek 24 is overpriced considering it is a quartz.

I've had the PP Aquanaut for about 6 years now. I also own a few Rolex watches. I bought the Aquanaut because I loved the style as well as the rubber band. I also liked the fact that it was quartz and always keeps the right time (unlike the Rolex's even when they are stored on a watch winder).
I've also watched my PP steadily increase in price over the years unlike my Rolex's.
It's nice to have a watch that you can grab and go without having to worry about setting it. For my lifestyle, my Patek quartz is perfect.
