Hi - I'm new to the forum, and I need help from experienced accessories wearers! I had been wanted diamond stud earrings forever and just got them for my birthday. Let's say it was a Significant Birthday...

They are 1.25 carats total, princess cut set in a 4-prong yellow gold. I bought them at a reputable jeweler in Boston (Barmakian) but they are uncertified diamonds. The woman who helped me let me look through loose stones until I found these. She said they were G color, very good to excellent cut and S1. I asked how she knew without a report and she said she'd been doing this for 30 years and she knew. Ok. They were set for me in screw backs and are now sitting in my ears, and I am freaking out about them!

Most of you will think this is crazy, but first of all I worry that they are too big! 1 carat total wouldn't have looked much different and I would have saved $500. I should have bought them at diamonds4less.com or something like that. I am feeling greedy AND thinking, here I am, a stay at home mom for the time being, taking care of twin two year olds and a four year old. What on earth do I need diamond earrings for?? Next, I am thinking - isn't it typical to get these. Do I look like a "kept" woman now, but with my big shiny earrings and no paying job. I am a simple person and I am totally paranoid that these earrings send the wrong message.

Talk me down, please! I am being way too neurotic about this, but something is pushing me to return these. My husband would think I was cray if I asked for these for 10 years, and return them two days after I finally get them!

THANKS!

I think 1.25 Ct is a nice everyday size w/o being too over the top, or too small.. :)

Enjoy them, your a hardworking SAHM of 3, not to mention twins!... you deserve them! Give it a week or 2.. you won't even notice you have them on!

They're a staple, and you could never go wrong with diamond studs ;)

Enjoy your earrings! It was a special birthday and you work hard staying home with 3 little kids. I have a princess cut 1,5 ctw pair and they are great for everyday wear.

Personally, I don't think they sound ridiculously large, and if your husband can afford them and was happy to buy them as a birthday gift, I don't think you should feel funny about it. But... if your gut is telling you something... listen to it! Check your return policy, and if it gives you a few weeks, try wearing them for that long to see if you feel better about them. If not - they go back. Too big of a purchase to sit in a drawer or bring weird feelings on.

No way, they sound great for everyday. Heck, I have 2.00 cts tw and I want to upgrade to 4.00! LOL. But I have big lobes so I can pull it off. He he...at least that is how I want to justify to hubbie. :graucho:I agree with the others, a SAHM is just as hard of a job as someone who physically gets up and goes to an office everyday. Dont worry about what others think. relax and enjoy!

Ahhhh, you're just having a 'mommy moment'........you definitely deserve something that makes you happy. I am a stay at home Mom too (but my 4 kids are now in middle school/HS) but those early years were TOUGH (loved it but definitely had my moments). Please don't second guess whether you are deserving - YOU ARE!!! As for the size, to each his own I guess. 1.25 twt is a wonderful size......I wear 4 ct twt everyday/all day and don't think twice about it (except acknowledging how fortunate I am to have them). ENJOY!!!

So if you're a SAHM you're not supposd to get any jewelry? If a SAHM with 1/ 1/2 carats is a kept woman then I must know some major league prostitutes.

Why are you so worried about what other people will think about you? If your husband can afford them its no one else's business. Tell people they are cz's if it really bothers you what others think.

Don't worry JuniperO the size of your diamond earrings are not excessive at all! If it's 1.25ct total, that equates to roughly 0.63ct on each ear, which is an excellent size for a nice pair earrings that you can wear out without looking like a kept woman at all! Plus you being a SAHM have nothing to do with this. If anything you have the hardest job in the world taking care of 3 kids! You totally deserve this! Even if you don't feel like wearing this every day it would be a nice piece of jewellry to wear when you go to dinners and parties!

And ITA with what's being said here: If you're happy with it and your DH's happy for you to have it, then why worry? Just enjoy it!

Hi JuniperO, 1.25 ct is the exacty size of my diamond studs that I received for my 38th birthday 16 years ago. I have worn them nearly every day since I received them - they're always in fashion, in good taste and I love them. Just enjoy your gift. You certainly deserve them!

JuniperO - I think you deserved them. 1.25 total carat weight is not that big. Just wear and enjoy them. To make you feel better, think of passing them down to your daughter.

If you are worried about what other people would say, just say that they are your mom's. That's what I do when I don't want people to know....they'll stop asking.

Happy Birthday.....

JuniperO, I agree with everyone please enjoy your new earrings!
Being a Mom is the most challenging job in the world in my opinion, so if anyone gives you grief about your earrings, ask them to spend one whole day with three babies under the age of 5!
Of course you deserve it.:smile1:
