Overpaid???

From looking at the pics all the bag needs is standard cleaning+conditioning+painting (not colouring the whole bag, just small areas like corners and scratches). I paid 255eur or so last year for this 3 in 1 service. I think the price increased by 10-15eur this year, so I guess in the US it will be 3xx$. You can check in the Hermes spa or pricing thread for exact prices.

You're welcome. I think sending a bag to spa will be the ultimate confirmation that it's authentic (if you ever had any doubt). But from the condition of your bag I wouldn't do it yet. It takes too long for the little things that they would need to do. Plus you will get tiny scratches in no time again if you use the bag.

At least here in Europe they send it off to France most often, which takes 4-6 months. If you have a local artisan it could be faster. But due to holiday times it would be extra long if you send it in now.

LOL I actually already received it but I'm just not sure if I've over paid. It does have some corner wear, marks & scratches on the HD
Asking this question here - is it possible that inside you are thinking exactly that "overpaid"?
Just rhetorical questions - maybe best to have your picture taken - and checking the photos - I personally would ask myself:
1. is this really the bag I absolutely have to have?
2. is this the colour I really absolutely want - or would black or another shade of grey be ok for me, too?
3. is there a reason why I wish for a B right now?
4. would it be ok - because of inflation - to wait a few more months, maybe a year or longer and possibly buy a
- maybe even better bag that doesn't have to go to the spa right away
- or even get a new one via a waiting list in a boutique
for maybe even less money?
(Since apparently here in the EU it is possible to order via a waiting list - without prespend (London thread e.g.) - maybe soon in the USA as well?)
5. in the worst case (how likely is that for me?) I don't find one like point 4 and would have to make another compromise / colour / pricewise? Would I feel terrible? So terrible to pay now ... for a bag that did not convince me enough to post this question openly?
Hope that helps - tough decision - good luck!

If you read the Spa thread carefully, you will be able to get some idea of the costs involved.
That is how you become informed and confident.
This forum is an excellent resource. We all have different backgrounds, encounter Hermes across the world, have a lot of opinions based upon our own experience and that has depended upon how we interact with the Hermes staff.
It is not best practise to rely on any one view; by reading widely you will get your own overview.

Thanks; I'm not doubting the authenticity as Fashionphile is really strict & good at authenticating. Wow; yes that seems too long to wait & I think I'll be ok carrying it with the little wear that it has now as I won't be as worried about using it if it were brand new LOL thx again for the great info!

wow thank you so much for taking the time to come up with all these great thought provoking questions!! I clearly have a lot to consider! & In case it's not obvious, I'm bad at decisions especially big ones so yes it's tough! & I had no idea that in EU, you can order via a waiting list vs pre spend! That is clearly not the case here in the USA sadly; I wish it was! But wow that does give hope that maybe things will change here eventually... I def don't want to have to just buy random things at H that I don't necessarily need or want just to try to get an offer for a quota bag sadly. I appreciate you taking the time to respond; it will help me consider all the things that I clearly should be considering :-) Thx again!

thx I didn't know there was even a spa thread so I will def check it out!

Relevant to your stated pricing concerns, there should be no question for a bag at this sticker price, and that means top-tier authentication only--by Bababebi. Fashionphile has in fact made mistakes. Not saying this is one, but blind trust isn't in your interest.

yes good point; I have heard they have made mistakes though rare. I believe I can send photos to Bababebi for authentication right? I should prob do that for peace of mind if I decide to keep it.. thx

There isn’t any place in the EU I know of where you can get a Birkin or Kelly just via wishlist. Only London works this way AFAIK.
Of course, you can get a bag in Paris with a leather appointment and a bunch of good luck!

On is this overpriced…honestly only you know what the bag is worth to you. If you love it and are dancing around the house in joy, I would not overthink it. If this price is couch change to you, I would not overthink it.

If you are NOT filled with joy, and this can be your only purchase of a Birkin for a while, then yes I’d examine not so much the value, but whether you love the bag enough.

Ah so I need to get to London or Paris LOL! Great advice thx

I dont think it needs a SPA visit. I think you can minimize those stains and scuffs on the corners yourself. Grab a microfiber cloth, damp it lightly with water only and go over the bag GENTLY. The corners look like minor scuffs and if you have the guts to moisturize it with a mild leather conditioner, they will fade a little. I, like others have the guts to clean my own H bags. I NEVER had H or the SPA refuse service for any of my bags just because they were cleaned with water or mild conditioner. Ive been told by the leather experts at Madison in NYC that I can use H saddle soap on my Barenia and I did. Others make a big deal out of things here... if you're not confident or enjoy doing it yourself, stay away. H is strict at turning you away if the bag is dyed, painted and repaired outside H. Good luck, really nice bag and you live life once.
PS: SPA visit and turn around could take a year minimum.

Good to know thx! ooh I'm jealous u have a barenia; so pretty! wow yeah I think if I keep it, I'm ok holding off on spa for now. the Corner rubbings don't bother me too much & maybe I'll enjoy using it more rather than being scared to take it out b/c it's brand new if that makes sense.. & yep I may as well enjoy it while I have it
