This is a beautiful bag for sure but doesn't the sheer width of it make it rather difficult to carry as a crossbody? I hate when a bag is sticking too far away from my body when carrying it that way, not flattering if you know what I mean:graucho:
I think it is an awkward bag for shoulder and crossbody. It is wide at the bottom and thus is not a comfortable fit. I love the bag otherwise, and do like satchels, so that is the saving grace. I don't wear any bag crossbody, and typically shorten the long strap so I can wear it as a shoulder bag occasionally when needed. But it still is awkward when not using as a satchel.

That's great to hear, especially about the pockets because I was trying to figure out what I would put in mine. I have a large Samsung, and I don't like the way it fits in the exterior pockets, so I guess it will be better suited inside of the purse as there's a nice slot for it there. What do you put in those turnlock pockets? Nothing I've tried fits, so I said if I keep it, I'll put receipts.
I have a Samsung and put it in the front outside pocket. I put my keys in the back one. I use the inside pocket for a few extras that I always put in the inside open pockets in my bags. The pockets really work well for me. I hope you can find a way that you like to use them!

I have a Samsung Note 4, which is big and usually doesn't fit in most things. It can fit in the open pockets of the Ace, but awkwardly I feel. I also have the glovetanned key case that fits in the open pocket, but I feel like it bulges out too much. However, I haven't fully committed to the bag, so I just placed these items in and didn't mess with it too much. Hearing that it's awkward as a crossbody and shoulder is making me lean toward return, unless I can bring myself to using it as a satchel. I'm not one to hand carry a purse, so I'm not sure. I absolutely love the look of the purse, so I will have to think long and hard before I return it.

I will more than likely go for the small Rogue that's coming out in May because I could use that as a shoulder bag and crossbody. Decisions...decisions.

If you prefer crossbody and shoulder, I would have to agree with you that it is probably not the right bag long term. As much as I like the bag, I was quick to admit to myself that this bag is not a fun shoulder carrying bag. It just isn't comfortable. I had tried crossbody before shortening the strap, and even though I am not a crossbody person, it didn't feel/look any better as crossbody versus shoulder. The bag presented the same issues either way due to the wide bottom.

Good luck on your decision!

When I turn the front corner turnlock pocket down as shown in many pictures, my phone fits comfortably inside the pocket, and I love the look of the bag even more. I'm 5'9 and when placed on the shortest setting to wear on my shoulder or even crossbody, it isn't too bad, but still awkward. I may have to get used to hand carry for this one and keep the strap inside the purse for those times when I need to be hands free.

I've actually returned this purse twice. Once, when I received my oxblood Rogue and loved the purse so much that I wanted it in chalk, so I returned the Outlaw and ordered the Rogue in chalk but didn't care for it as much as the Outlaw. Then, I reordered the Outlaw a week before I found out about PCE, returned it again and repurchased with the 30% discount, so something is obviously calling me to it. I was pretty sure I was keeping this bag and returning the chalk whiplash saddle because I don't really need two chalk bags and the Outlaw in chalk seems to be less likely to stain due to the finish, I guess. However, after I loaded up the Outlaw with my things, which isn't much, I definitely thought it was heavy, which is odd because I don't even feel the Rogue is heavy.

It would be very hard for me to give this purse up, and I love reading the positive reviews. Although, overall, there aren't many reveals or reviews on this one. I'm shocked that more people on TPF aren't talking about this one. Perhaps, some are waiting for the pebbled glovetanned leather version.

I completely understand. The reviews on this bag are so positive at the Coach site, and I really like it too. It has surprised me that there hasn't been much discussion about this bag. It has nice details and some great features.

I hope it works out for you. I know far back I used to be only a shoulder purse person, until Coach came along for me and I became a satchel person (with the occasional shoulder carry when needed). So maybe this is the bag that will make you a satchel person (at least while carrying this bag)! :-)

As for the strap, I used to do what you mentioned...keep the strap inside for occasional use. But then for all of my bags with the extra strap, I started shortening the strap, and leave it on all of the time. It hangs down under the bag when carrying, but it is short, so looks fine and I can throw the bag on my shoulder quickly. (I realize not many like to alter their bags, but this has really worked for me to make the bags more user friendly, as I hated using the long crossbody strap).

I have the Outlaw in black, but I haven't used it yet mainly because I am undecided about the strap. How did you shorten the strap for a shoulder bag? Did you add extra holes?

I won't use it cross-body at all. I am 5'2" and the strap is very long.

Any advice? I really want to keep this bag, thanks!

Thanks! I'm sure it will work out, and yes, the reviews on Coach are very positive. I would probably be upset with myself if I returned it and then wanted it later and had to pay full price for it or it became unavailable. For that reason, and the fact that the bag is beautiful, I'm keeping it and will try to see how I like hand carrying a purse for a change.

Yes, I figure out about long I want the strap based on trying it on, and then put in an extra hole up there, and then cut off the excess of the strap. It has made such a difference in the use of my bags... I have done this on my mini prestons, rhyders, toaster bags, etc, and I love the functionality of it, for me personally.

Keep in mind, the outlaw is not the best example of this since it isn't a great shoulder carry bag either--but it does allow me to do the occasional shoulder carry when I need to be hands free for a bit.
