today I was at Hermes Zürich. Waited for 40 minutes outside only to get the Information that they have no bags. During waiting I saw some people walking out with an orange box. When I asked the SA if those are Handbags which are reserved before. She replied " this is not likely to be the norm, we have no bag..." I found it weird. Isn`t it so that those big orange square box are intended only for Handbags?

Could be for a lot of other items such as boots, RTW, and home goods including pillows and blankets etc.. in fact nowadays most people tend to wish for walking out with smaller orange boxes.

Nope. Nearly every Hermes item comes in an orange box. The other shoppers could have been purchasing shoes, pillows, tableware, hats, nearly anything large enough could look like a “bag box” to the untrained eye. That’s not to say that the SAs were being honest about the lack of bag inventory but just that one cannot tell what clients are buying simply because it was packaged in an orange box.

@tonkamama, ".. in fact nowadays most people tend to wish for walking out with smaller orange boxes."
Why is that so?

These days people avoid carrying out obvious Hermes purchases/ bags. I (and many others) ask for a discrete plain bag instead so as to avoid drawing attention to a potentially high value item. Sad times :(

I bought a pillow a few days ago and the SA said "No boxes for pillows", I was kinda disappointed cause I wanted to keep the pillow for storage in the box (I plan on using it seasonally). Does Hermes ever give boxes post-purchase?

My local H knows by now that when I buy bags I never want the box because I don't have enough space at home. Also, for bags, I ask for a white plain bag.

That's strange, because I can't imagine them just throwing the pillows around without a box in the backroom. You can ask your SA again if you can have a box for storage purpose, otherwise, there is vacuum seal that you can use to put away blankets and pillows, probably work out better than a H box and save you some extra space.

Yeah they put it in a orange big bag with a foldable lid and I thought the box was inside but I was shocked when I opened it and it was just the dust bag. Honestly, moving countries and being treated like a newbie at my new Hermes store has been really emotionally tough on me and my new SA has been very unaccommodating thus far so I just felt like it was another unnecessary taunt by him. I'll reach out to the store, thanks!

During covid, i thought there was a shortage of boxes due to supply chain issues.

If an H boutique tells me no bags, i dont take it personally. Bags are reserved for regular or VIP clients. And, sometimes an SA is not authorized to offer. . . Not a big deal. There is always another store, another day, another bag.

like @duna , i request no bag or packaging. I don’t particularly like the orange box

You are better off with a dust bag than a box for your pillow.
