Man oh man!
As I had said before...the ring that I am getting is priced at 10,700 dollars and with tax and everything said and done it will be about 11,897 dollars (mind you I live in CA).

Today I went to Tiffany's and spoke with my wonderful (serious...she's great) sales rep and we looked over some of the prices and stuff.

The only way to go up in carrot and still be within my limit is to drop quality really low. Even something like a 1c would have to be a Vs2 and an I color. That's too low of color for me personally. To get a G at 1c it would be around 18,000 plus. lol. Just because I feel like a million bucks walking around the Stanford shopping center and going to Tiffany's doesn't mean that I have a million bucks...lol. However, if I really had to, I would go up in size to a .82 or .84 which is still very close to what I have, but even that would be around 14 all said and done.

Thank you guys for everything! I appreciate all your help on here. Besides everything esle the ring that I'm probably going to end up staying with is completely beautiful and stunning just like my girlfriends face...lol. And I'm sure she'll be happy with it. Thank you guys!

haha. You just can't mess with the best. Why don't I just buy her a e-ring at Target. lol
:confused1: actually, Target isn't equal to Good Old Gold, Engagements Rings Direct, other independent jewelers, etc. . . .
Tiffany's actually isn't "the best" it's all marketing, you can get the exact stone that you're getting at Tiffany's anywhere else for probably 40% less.
I chose a Tiffany's quality stone from my personal jeweler, the stats on mine would fit into Tiffany's criteria. If I bought mine through Tiffany's it would've easily been over $100k, that's ridiculous! LOL!
No one will know it's Tiffany's but you 2 and if that's what makes YOU happy then fantastic! But don't come back and diss others and compare them to Target.

I would stay with the .72 and go for great clarity. I say this b/c I have a .74 engagement ring and EVERYONE thinks it's a carat anyway. It also depends on how the stone is cut too (e.g. two rings that are both .72 may look like they are different sized depending on the shape of the diamond and the cut).

Good luck and let us know what you decide!

I think that's so stupid how people think that they have the right to say something everytime that I mention Tiffany's just because they are not getting a Tiffany's. That's like me saying "It's a shame that your getting a mercedes, you could get a perfectly fine four door car for a whole lot less money at GMC." I can't understand what it's from...Jealousy? Envy? Because if it was not either of those, then people just would not say anything. Why? Why do people care if "I" want to get my girlfriend a Tiffany's engagement ring? I'm sure those same people own things at their houses that I can point out and say "Yeah, you paid too much for that...just for the name!" Please, just leave the negative comments out about Tiffany's.

uh, I think we did leave out the negative commentary until you made a snarky comment
I wanted to say from the beginnig that you pay too much for the little brand stamp inside the band but didn't and think I was very supportive of you. You're the one that decided to turn this around.

The thing is...I am very Obsessive Complusive and have been doing research for a year or so now. I have been to the following places. . .

Zales, Kays, (almost all internet sites), Dercos, The Shane company, The Diamond Center, Helzberg, Jared, etc. etc. Here was the main thing that made me come to my conclusion.

1. Stores have to sell themselves. "Take a look at this...we are this...we are that...you save money this...you can do this...we have financing this..."

2. Stores try to act like they are Tiffany's. "well, we can make things like Tiffany's...we are almost like Tiffany's...you can save money here...You can do this just as good..."

At Tiffany's, the quality sells itself. They don't sell the rings there.

I would like to get off of the Tiffany's topic. From now on I will not mention the name here on this forum. Thank you guys all for helping me though about the size vs. Quality upgrade issue that I asked in the beginning. Thank you guys.

oh and the reason people offer different resources is because WE CARE :D
A lot of folks have NO idea that you can get the exact same product that Tiffany's offers elsewhere for less.
You came and asked, people offered advice:yes:

Congrats and I hope she loves it, I'm positive she will!
