Opinions on up cycle trend

Not a fan. It is worse than a dupe (which is different from a replica as there is no LV branding on a dupe). LV is going around removing people's Instagram/Facebook posts/pictures of dupes, but they don't seem to be doing anything about replicas or up cycled items.

A lot of the up cycled items I have seen (not mine) in person seem to be made of canvas that has a particular smell to them so I am not sure where some people get their canvas. The idea is that they pay as little as possible for the canvas then make their variety of items. I have seen people list their version of items that LV once made (sunglass holder, keychains, etc) also.

I just don't understand it nor would I buy something so ridiculous. I get buying pre-loved, etc., but this is like stealing, they are literally making another bag. Strange. I have 2 old LV, that I never took care, and they look horrible, but I still can't bring myself to toss them. I have the small bucket, i remember getting caught in a downpour with that bag. Gross LoL

IMHO these are not examples of up-cycling and are instead nothing more than create-your-own-fake. I'm wondering if this trend is taking hold due to supply and demand for cheap "luxury" and/or one-of-a-kind statement pieces during the pandemic or if counterfeiters are using the title "up-cycling" to skirt around legal issues... To have one or two individuals doing this is one thing, but for it to take such a foothold and gain momentum is another.
