One big purchase vs several smaller ones?

as others have said, big purchase is relative......do you have something expensive you'd like to save for? one time I knew I had some money coming in (bonuses, gifts) and I decided to put it all together to get a good watch.
What do you want?
I wouldn't blow it on costume jewelry but on the other hand, I have some 14K earrings that are now dated.
So if you're going to spend a lot, I'd try to get something classic like diamond studs.

I'm considering buying a bangle from Boucheron, however, it would be the most I have ever spent on myself

like $7K? that's large to me
I don't think I'd do it but it's you who has to love it. Will you have this kind of money again relatively soon or is this your last big purchase for a long time? Have you always wanted one of these bracelets or is this a recent impulse? Just things to think about
One good thing - there is no maintenance to this as opposed to an old school watch (like Rolex) that needs expensive service every now and then.

This is an interesting question! But even though budget is relative I think it is still relevant.

I am on the “fewer, better pieces” side. But, if I was fortunate enough to have a £10k+ budget, one big, extravagant piece might be unwearable for every day, and in that case, a few more low key luxury pieces might be better value on a cost per wear basis.

And then, if you are looking to spend a LOT of money, you’re better off buying something unique and rare as an investment piece.

I generally prefer one big one! I don’t like to switch up my jewelry and so I would rather do one larger piece that I can wear all the time instead of multiple pieces that I might switch between. I was recently trying to decide between the small and regular JUC and I thought that maybe I could do the small and get another piece of jewelry (that felt more practical than spending that amount all on one piece). My SA suggested that if I was thinking of spending that money anyway, I should go with the one piece I really wanted. I have been super happy with my decision to get the regular!

Maybe it depends on whether if you get the 3/4 cheaper pieces, will you'll still be thinking of that one extravagant piece

I would keep saving for the one that you want - in that time you may change your mind but it will give you breathing space. If you are still thinking about it when you have the funds then I would buy it. [emoji253]
Edit to add, that for me, I would still be thinking of the one extravagant piece!

Oh yeah, it's definitely relative. When I was still working in the stores, a splurge would have been $1000, but being able to buy things wholesale (or less if they were pre-loved), I could get more bang for my buck. Now a splurge would be considerably less, as my income is not what it used to be (I'm an artist, always was, but I had "day" jobs, now I don't). I don't need to buy anymore jewelry anyway.

For me it depends on how much I want the one big piece. Some things for me are staples that I never/rarely change unless I’m dressing up or going out, for those I want to go for quality and timelessness, which usually comes with a higher price tag (watch and earrings). But I like to swap out my necklaces and bracelets all the time, so for those I usually would buy multiple smaller ones, though I’ve definitely splurged on those as well if it’s something I desperately want (currently saving up for a pave Love).

I think it depends on lifestyle as well as income. I have a 3 year old daughter and feel a bit uncomfortable wearing very obviously expensive handbags and jewellery when taking her to preschool, doing activities with her etc. I realise this is my prejudice but, for me, wearing several still very nice but less obviously super expensive pieces (normally a pair of diamond earrings, a ring or two, maybe a necklace) as opposed to one blowout piece that I know will stand out, feels more comfortable. Already I feel like I stand out like a sore thumb as none of the other mums seem to be into bags or fine jewellery at all.

I would like to get a Cartier Love (used to own the cuff but stupidly sold it) but I just can’t justify it right now either finances-wise or based on my current lifestyle.
