One big purchase vs several smaller ones?

Oh boy, I used to be a buyer (and salesperson, bookkeeper, etc.) in a jewelry store, and an antique store manager. I don't think I could ever wear only one piece, so it's several smaller ones for me.

I used to prefer more jewellery over
one special piece. I think for me it's about how often I'll wear it. I tend to get bored with necklaces easily so I change them often - for me it wouldn't make financial sense to spend a huge amount on a necklace. Since getting my small Love for my birthday I've realised I wear bracelets 24/7 so I feel ok splurging there

The opinions here are pretty uniform and also I won’t be adding much variety.
Used to buy many pieces but cheaper and of lesser quality eg 9k or 14k gold and I liked wearing quite a lot at the same time. Now, I rarely buy and buy expensive pieces I’ll love and wear daily. Depends on one’s needs go either way, there’s no ‘right way’ ;)

Splurge, generally speaking. With rings though I find them easy to change (I can never be bothered to change my pendant or earrings as I find it more fiddly) so like lots of different ones to go with different outfits.

In general though I tend to be a splurge on a few items rather than buy a load of cheaper ones kind of person; even back when I was at school I would rather have had 1 pair of Jimmy Choos than 20 pairs from Primark.

Depends what you means by splurge? Most people could't wear high jewellery everyday, every day including me. I can never save past a certain amount either because there are some very nice things to buy under $5K.

I would say what is classed as a splurge is very much personal. For me, at this time of my life, £1k plus on jewellery would be a big splurge, for others it might be £10k plus. It is all relative. So the way I interpreted the question was if you have x budget would you rather have 1 item or 5 items.

Yes good point!

I like splurges... but then I keep buying and up with 5 :p

Yes that is exactly what I meant!

as others have said, big purchase is relative......do you have something expensive you'd like to save for? one time I knew I had some money coming in (bonuses, gifts) and I decided to put it all together to get a good watch.
What do you want?
I wouldn't blow it on costume jewelry but on the other hand, I have some 14K earrings that are now dated.
So if you're going to spend a lot, I'd try to get something classic like diamond studs.
