I've just taken a look on Hermes.com to see the Scarfs and Scarf Rings and I can't believe the difference in the USA and the UK sites!

Firstly, the US site has so many more scarves on it and the prices seem to be so much cheaper..... No I mean A LOT cheaper.

For starters - the US site has lots of different coloured Tribord Rings (8 in total) whereas the UK site only has Silver, Gold and White.

Then, the Plisse (I believe its called), the Pleated Silk Scarfs are $385 (which equates to £189.95) whilst the ones they have on the UK site are £225 (which equates to $456).

How come the stock and prices should be soooo different - you are very lucky in the US.

[I probably missed some very vital point somewhere along the line and have it all wrong so excuse me if I have - I'm not a 'numbers' person!]

It's like that for almost everything... the US generally has good prices on luxury items I find. On the plus side, if you come overseas to shop in the US, everything will be a bargain since the USD is so weak.

I've noticed the price difference too, and there's way more stuff on the US site. The gold Indian Dust isn't on the UK site. Grrr. There used to be a big price difference between the European prices and the UK ones, but it has lessened recently.

Two of my friends have gone to NYC for St Patrick's day and they brought empty suitcases with them. I'm so jealous!

The UK, is just about the most expensive place in Europe right now, £1.10 for a litre of fuel,

Electricity prices, Heating oil price,Booze, and a big fat chancellor, with a big fat bank balance, that still gets us into huge debt

I feel better for that moan and gripe :roflmfao::p

If you buy on the US site will they post to the UK?????

Also, a lot of US version of the sites are blocked from the UK. They don't want consumers in the UK knowing what the prices are in America.

If you look on Net a Porter, the prices are much less in the states as well.

You'll end up paying a huge VAT if you get anything sent by post. I got my wedding photos posted to me with a declared value of $75 and then the charged me 40GBP for VAT. :cursing::cursing::cursing::cursing: They said that the Fedex charges got VAT as well. So definitely not worth it unless it's something you really want and they don't have here.

I don't know if H.com US will post to UK but I bought a scarf over the phone from Charlotte store. No problem at all but the FedEx shipping and handling fees, VAT and customs meant that in the end I paid more than UK retail. It was Turandot scarf though so no chance of buying it anywhere else :push:

Hey everyone. The reason why the UK is so much more expensive is because of VAT tax. That alone is 17%, and then the simple "things are just more expensive thing" in the UK kicks in. I lived in London in the late 90's and nothing has changed, except that the exchange rate between the once mighty USD and the Pound Sterling has gone lopsided for us USD based girls. In addition, Hermes is a French company, so the strength of the EUR has also hurt us. Basically, in this current weak USD environment, you are better off buying in the US if you are based in the UK or Europe. Your money gets you more here. As for the Americans, the best we get back is the VAT, but not even the full 17% in London. Each store gets a diff % back. I think Harrods is 11-12%, some as much as 14-15%. Never the full 17%. Man, this post is WAY boring. Sorry. I used to love shopping overseas, but now, I just stick to NY. I can't afford anything over there!

Thankyou Hermes monkey for that info

The Euro exchange is really hitting me hard at the moment, having to change pounds into Euros, six months ago I would get 1.5 euros to pound, now app
1.3,

But the UK, is just so expensive and earnings are not for the average person that is.

Thanks again

If you think Uk prices are expensive, wait till you see Aus prices......

for example 90cm scarf US price=US$355 Aus price= AU$545=US$511

I barely purchase anything from Aus Hermes 'cause I just can't justified the price...:yucky:
