Hi, this is a Bottega Veneta newbie here :flowers:sorry if this has been discussed ad nauseum.

I am so late in discovering the wonderful intrecciato bags and I find that I only prefer the Tomas Maier era styles.

That said, I love the look of the new hobo (not the Jodie style) that is on the Bottega Veneta website but I do not like:
1) it is unlined (I wish it were lined in suede or calf leather, why did they not do this for the current hobo)
2) the price point for an unlined bag where you can see daylight (look below at the attached picture)
3) I need/want a bigger size than what is currently offered
5512190A-8388-4A19-BD48-441FA6955AD3.pngThis is such a shame because I  how the weave is all over this bag and the handle appears to be one weaved piece.

On the other hand, I looked at the Tomas Maier-era bags and I saw these:

I love the suede lining, and the smaller intrecciato weave reflective of the Tomas Maier period and that this hobo is a larger size but not Maxi. The mirror that comes with this bag is cute.
The older style appears ‘flatter’ in silhouette but that is ok.

Cons: a little worried about the fraying at the ends which I saw on many of these bags in the secondary market.

But even though I love the look of the current hobo on Bottega Veneta’s website I could not personally justify paying $$$ for a small size hobo when I really need a larger size. And although the weaving is gorgeous, I do not like the lack of lining wyou can practically see daylight.

I am happy to have found the Tomas Maier style bags and look forward to this hobo.

I wish Daniel Lee would offer more sizes in the new hobos, with suede lining.
Not a fan of the Jodie bags. (Sorry)

I understand now why so many miss Tomas Maier. My only regret is that I did not start collecting sooner during his era.

Thanks for reading! Just my $0.02

You’ll probably want to look for a Veneta made after 2014/2015. The handle has the Intrecciato all the way around and the finishing along the perimeter was also updated to a hardier stitch.
You might want to check out this thread:
This thread has pictures of newer style Venetas as well. https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/veneta-belly-veneta-pics-only.246403/page-9

I'm definitely kicking myself for not buying BV years ago, especially preowned. I remember looking and being able to find quite a few of the old style hobos for $500-600 (preowned). They weren't as HOT before the recent trend so it was kind of affordable. Not so much anymore...

You are absolutely right! Who knew BV would be as trendy as they are now. The old style hobos were beautifully well made back then.

I have a feeling that the unlined hobo is unlined to show how beautiful weave off. Like the Cabat of old the artistry of the artisan is showcased in being able to make the reverse look as good as the front. I have a rare colour mink that is unlined and then fancy-stitched to show it's undyed, therefore much more expensive than its counterparts. How they weaved the bag in one round is amazing.

Hold on though, you will find your BV hobo at a non-Cabat price point.

I also fell in love with the classic Venetas after TM left the brand. Luckily I managed to buy one from the boutique last year at a 40% discount, right before they phased them out. I regret not buying the second one that was offered to me. That being said, the remaining models were sent to the outlets. If I were you I’d try my luck there. Call your nearest outlet and ask. You might find what you’re looking for at a great discount and brand new . Good luck!

PS : I agree with you regarding the new collection prices. Beyond ridiculous at this point!

Thank you :heart: I will keep looking online and take a trip to the Livermore outlet out here.

I do wish Daniel Lee had kept the aesthetics that we consider the heart and core of Bottega Veneta but I know there are others who love the current styles

I was also late to the TM party. My interest in designer bags began in 2019. I gravitated towards subtle designs with fine craftsmanship, and TM bags caught my attention first. I had no idea at the time he was out and DL was in. Then I started seeing the Pouch (which I also love, BTW).

I think the more iconic TM era bags are gaining popularity on the secondary market. I have been stalking the preloved sites hoping to add a couple more of the "classics" to my collection. It is getting more difficult to find the styles and colors I want without noticeable wear and tear. However, I am patient, and hold out for what I want. Fortunately, I have still found all my TM era bags for more than 65% off retail. I consider them a good deal in comparison to current DL bags.
