HAHAHA

So my sister last year was hanging around with us when her husband rang her asking her to meet him in sydney for a surprise. so she gets back and on her finger is this Gorgeous Tiffany & Co. ring, pink tourmaline, diamonds and set in platinum. From what i heard and saw NOT prettty cheap. BUT it was beautiful and classic. Timeless you could say.

SOOOOOOOO 3 months later she was at swimming for her 2 kids and all of a sudden she looks down to answer her phone AND the pink tourmaline is missing from its claws. SOOOO she runs around the whole swimming arena looking for it. She found it 20 mins later and took it to the store. They shipped it off and had re-clawed. WELLLLL she got it back and it became loose again. SOOOO they sent it back to New York to get re-clawed properly and inspected. took 5 weeks and then it came back and not 3 days later, she would move her hand the stone rattled. SOOO she took it back and asked for their money back.

Needless to say 2 weeks of stringing them on. FIRST they offered her a COMPLETE new ring made from scratch, Then they offered maybe we could pull it apart for you and re place the whole claw? and then they offered a store credit. NOW my sister and brother-in-law sadly DO NOT return to a business if the service is not up to them. SOOO Tiffany had em on a string for 2 weeks and finally agreed to give their money back.

Then she remarked thank you for the refund but sadly we will not be coming back any time soon. and walked out. PRETTY RUDE i know BUT they know what they wanted and it wasn't given to them.

SOOO just wanted to know what u guys think you would have done in this situation? or if you would have gotten more angry than my sister and DH did. And do you think they should go back and give em a second chance?

I'd LOVE to hear your opinions;)

Kinda Reagrds

YIKES! I wouldn't have let it go that long before I wanted a refund! She's more patient than I would have been! If it was loose again after the first fix, that would've been when I said "refund, NOW." I find many of their staff to be insanely rude, esp when they've already gotten your money. But they don't try very hard to earn your business either. Every time I go there, regardless of location and how I am dressed, and if I have made a purchase, I am treated like I don't belong there. If I want an item they don't have in stock in my size, they require I purchase it first to bring it in my size, or it cannot be brought into the store in my size. Ridiculous.

My experiences with them have not been particularly great, I don't like their games, I don't like their horrid attitude, and their quality is nowhere near matching their pricepoint, and they know it, the profit margin is ludicrous on almost every item there. I do have a wedding band from them, but our original engagement came from them, and their staff damaged and then repeatedly lost it, then when we got a replacement sorted out, they lost that too, though we suspect that just got resold to someone else. There was really never much apology either and we had to fight for a refund. So I do have a little bit of iffiness there.

It sounds like the ring had an incorrect able flaw. I think your sister is very lucky to have found the stone, I can't even imagine swimming with that type of jewelry.
I wonder if that type of usage contributed to the failure. Some settings just cannot take that sort of stress.

I understand Tiffany wanting to keep the sale and I would have taken the offer for a brand new ring if I really loved it. Otherwise I would have selected something else.

In any case, I don't think there is any reason ever for rudeness. A thank you for the refund was all that was required.

I was thinking she took her kids to swimming, not that she was swimming.

I'm afraid i worded the swimming part wrongly. She wasn't swimming. her kids where. She was just sitting in the side watching them. the looked down and bamnn stone gone.

Yeaaa she loved it but then it was all this could happen again and then we will get royally screwed!! and then i tuned out cus it was just snotty to me. BUT i agree they where very rude after they got what they wanted. I told her maybe you should have thanked them a bit more nicer. and she just started at me. hahaha family gotta lov eem;)

OHHHHH wow!!!! they LOST YOUR RING not once but TWICE!!!! holy moley!!!! NOW i would have yelled and become very rude. And i do strongly agree with you. We went in for my sisters 30th birthday in 2009 (yes im 18 there is a massive gap between us:) ) and we waited 30 mins JUST TO BE LOOKED AT!!!! i dnt get what the big fus is over Tiffany tbh. IMHO i dnt really like it. ONLY the really expensive stuff. ONLY time ive been served nicely was in Melbourne when i bought my other sisters 21st key (she wears allll the time now:) ) and the lady went out of her way to help and show my mum some items. OTHER THAN THAT!!! treated like we where no ones. my mum asked to see a diamond ring. (Mind yo my mother has an extensive range of custom made exoenive jewlwery from the past 15 years) and she said ohhh noo that 25,000 you dnt look like you can afford that. HMMM my mother just smiled and said i could afford a 200,000 engagment ring if i pleased BUT the thing is I think Tiffany is over rated and quite frankly "YOU my dear girl are one of the most pompous, rude and disgusting girl i have ever had the chance of meeting". She just was shell shocked and as we walked away mumbled something.

ANYWAY!! sorry to get off track. I do that a lot. Good to know you would have taken it back sooner;) Smart woman you are:)

I think it is valuable for a company to know you won't be coming back. Once you have the refund, it probably doesn't help to get angry or personal about it. But I think they (at least corporate) would want to know that situations like this cause them to lose customers permanently, so they can make policy changes or adjust their sales training.

Actually not even twice. THREE TIMES. And they tried to blame us for their damage to the stone--THEY dropped it and it hit the display case. We didn't even have it in our hands.

Regarding this ring: it's possible this setting had a flaw in the cast, or in the workmanship and a remake could've avoided the issue. But I would not probably have allowed them to find out, since I think they should've reset it in a new setting when it got loose the first time.

Your sister did the right thing...the refund was the best option since she wasn't so in love with the design that she couldn't consider living without it!

What is the problem with wearing the ring at the pool? Why have jewelry if it is so sensitive that you can only wear it certain times? It should be made well enough to get wet.

I disagree. Your sister was not rude. After what she went thru with this ring, she had every right to tell the Tiffany SA they will not be back. I would have taken the refund and said the same thing..

Agreed! I wear my wedding set in the pool. This is what insurance is for. They were more patient than me for sure. I'm not a Tiffany girl, but I'd expect platinum at their premium to be just as sturdy as my platinum. It's places like that that make me have my Julia Roberts moment ("You work on commission, right....) ;)

Your experiences sound really bad, i would be traumatized.

My personal experience at my local Tiffany Store is completely different. I get greeted warmly by the warmest door attendant & attentive warm reception by my lovey super accommodating sales associates. It helps that I always call ahead to say I'm visiting. I have bought returned & exchanged items countless times as I am fickle. You can say I can be a nightmare with my back & forth. She will always clean & inspect my Tiffany or non Tiffany jewelleries while i relax browse & enjoy my fav Perrier.

Her colleagues, including the store supervisor, manager & at times sales director will also come by to say hello.

Chlorine is not good for the metal--esp gold--or the stones. Esp some colored stones or softer gemstones.
