Is swift durable or easy to scratch? My SA has found a Tosca (my absolute favourite colour!!!!) 30 swift birkin for me but I'm not sure if it's a good idea to buy in swift for my very first birkin...
Your candid comments are very important to help me make this decision....

i think swift is a beautiful and durable leather and a birkin in 30 would be perfect as it wouldn't slouch so much! i don't like the slouch look so in a 35 it would be too soft and buttery for me. my experience with swift (i have a few bags and bracelets in swift but not in a birkin) have all been positive. it doesn't scratch as much as box IMO. it really depends on your scratch tolerance. everyone is different, if you are paranoid at every single little scratch, then none of the smooth leathers are recommended. you will have to try the grain ones like togo, clemence or fjord which does not show superficial scratches at all.

swift doesn't really show superficial scratches like box in my experience. when it does, it is light and not very obvious unless it is a deep scratch obviously. i have drop my swift kelly on a dirt gravel road before and it survived better than my knees!! also scratched by KP with my constance buckle too..but it was also fine as it just blends in after a while..HTH.

tosca in swift on a b30 sounds divine though..you are a lucky girl!!! let us know what you decide..:smile1:

I have 35 in chocolate brown color I don't know what is
the official name but it looks like milk chocolate and I have other leathers
my absolute favorite for first or any Birkin is Togo but having said that I loved swift as it is so smooth and shows color beautifully my Birkin has never been carried but stored very carefully and one day I took it out the corners had very
slight loss of color so I got concerned because I never carried it so I took it BH
Hermes boutique and my sa told me it can happen just with storage of your bog moved around In the box while moving and stuff so the short answer is yes it does scratch easily but if you are getting your choice of color go for it as you will baby
Your bag anyways because it's your first Birkin so go for it .....all the best luck :smile1:

Thanks for your note re: moving - I will definitely pay more attention when moving the box around when the bag is still intact. And u are so right about how i am going to baby my first birkin so i will be extremely careful with it :D

I have a 35 tosca bolide epsom and i love how the epsom is more solid, stands firm and quite scratch proof....and not to forget to mention how light the bag feels in this leather! I also have a tosca (yes, i have a major tosca fetish!) garden party fjord which is also quite scratch resilient so i haven't had to baby my bags before. Having said this, i do have a habit of taking good care of my bags but i'm worried about accidentally scratching the swift with my finger nail and leaving nasty scars - will this happen?

thank you! yes, i do consider myself rather lucky with my tosca findings -
i also have leather gloves, wallet, shawls, etc - all in tosca! :cloud9:

hi. can't help you there since i don't keep my nails long ever..for a birkin it should be fine since the top is open most of the time and you just reach in and get stuff in and out....unless you plan to carry it with the flaps closed and straps in all the time, then higher chance since you will be opening and closing it all the time. let's see what the other ladies think about nails and swift...i can't stop smelling and touching my swift bags because it is so buttery and smooth and smells amazing ;);) well actually i like touching all my H bags. simply can't stop admiring the colour/leather/stitching :p:p
