I'm not so sure about that. In some ways I agree. I feel that if you buy a used bag and you try to rehab it, but end up feeling disappointed with the results, too bad - that's your problem. You should have returned it right away, but once you start messing with it - then it's your bag.

On the other hand, I have seen SAs at the outlet liberally applying Coach cleaner/conditioner to bags and wallets many, many times! It seems to be their universal solution when a bag has a scratch or a blemish.

A few times I had to stop them from "treating" a bag that I wanted to purchase! I always tell them "Look at the care card before using Coach Conditioner!" (and the care card usually says not to use the stuff!)

Once an SA told me "Oh that doesn't matter, we use it all the time on just about everything!" I told her that "No thanks, since I was buying the bag I will take care it myself!"

So if Coach thinks its okay to condition a bag and then sell it as "New With Tags" I think it is fine for the OP to return a new bag after trying a little conditioner! Just my opinion!

Well, that's why it's my opinion.

And yeah, we all know there are SAs that do all kinds of stuff that may or may not be questionable. I guess this SA is even willing to take a return on an item sold exclusively by NAP? I personally wouldn't want to buy a bag that had been handled to the extent the OP has handled this bag from a retailer under the guise that it is brand new and never used, but different strokes and everything. :smile1:

^It is a NAP bag but they are sold on coach.com too. It was purchased through coach.com not net-a-porter. It really was a tiny bit of moisturizer on the biggest scratch---the SA's in Chicagoland are always doing this so I didn't really see a problem with it. I was very up front when I talked to the SA about it and I said exactly what happened. The SA said that's what they would have tried if I brought it in anyway, and sometimes they put moisturizer on scratched bags before they even hit the floor. I didn't realize that what I did was controversial and I certainly don't want to offend anyone. IMO my SA is not doing anything questionable, just providing good customer service.

I see your point too though.

Going to try for the pics tomorrow, the power's out now from the storm and doesn't seem to be coming back on..night all.

So, if the re-issues are lightweight and poor quality, does that include the "vintage" bags coach.com has carried for years - the ones that AREN'T carried by NAP? Are those lightweight and poor quality as well? I have been contemplating getting a Rambler's Legacy bag for a while, but I'll skip it if those bags are lacking in quality, too.

I hear ya, Eyegirl. It sounds like these new versions of the classics are of horrible quality. I thought maybe the NAP bags were exclusive to them, but from what you are saying, Coach is carrying the same poorly made bags? What a way to teach new Coach customers about the Coach name and what their classic bags signified....not.

I don't think so, I believe the "Coach Originals" that have been available on Coach.com for years are glove-tanned leather, but that the new "Coach Classics" are a special "light-weight" leather. Someone please correct me if I have got that wrong?

Classics? Originals? No wonder why everyone is confused. I sure am!
I am curious to see how these new bags will be received once they hit eBay. We will have to be sure to check the creed carefully for the number and place of birth and not accidentally buy a newer version of an older bag thinking it is vintage.

Boo!

The ones that are still carried on the website as Coach Originals are still the thicker leather, maybe not quite as thick as the really early vintage bags from the 70s and early 80s but comparable to the ones from the mid and late 1990s. To me they don't have quite the same "feel" - they feel a bit stiffer and the leather looks a bit duller - but maybe because I'm comparing them to my own bags that are already broken in and have been conditioned multiple times. They have to be a hundred times better than the NAP styles though.

I still prefer to buy most of my leather bags "pre-loved" from Ebay, but the leather Originals seem to show up at the outlets maybe once or twice a year and are usually marked down to between 100 and 150 dollars, about half of the website retail. If someone knows an outlet SA or manager, maybe you can ask if there's a specific month when the bags are sent there. Sometimes they may even have one or two limited-run colors that weren't on the website, like red.

I ordered the Coach Classic Willis and received it on Monday and it is EXACTLY what I remember my bags from the 80's and 90's being. I loved it so much the second that I took it out of the box, I was immediately contemplating ordering one more - probably will end up being the black Stewardess bag.

Great news...I just order a "Classic" Stewardess bag #9525 in British Tan. Should be here this Friday.

Below are the pics. It is even more scratched than it looks in the pics, the lighter scratches don't show up. The most severe scratch is on one of the sides. Also included some model pics. Too bad it isn't better quality because I like the look a lot.

For instance, for a long time, the Coach outlet carried all their classic bags.....Willis, Station, Rambler, Basic Bag, Janice....you would have been hard pressed to find a bag with no variations in the leather. That is what makes it a Coach bag.

And I swear I am not picking on you, Eyegirl. :smile1:
This thread is actually really informative, and might teach us something about what different generations expect from the brand.
