AAAAAAARGH.

Wow am I frustrated. I don't know what to do right now. I have really been wanting a classic Coach bag so I ordered one of the net-a-porter exclusives. It arrived today. It is very lightweight but the leather feels like plastic and is very thin. The lining is like a cheap suede, not the thick stuff it looks like in the pictures on the website. Not only that but it seems like every surface of the bag is lightly scratched. I tried to moisturize which helped some but of course if you turn the bag a certain way it looks scratched.

You have GOT to be kidding me. I am so sick of Coach bags that don't meet my expectations. I have never had a vintage bag so is it just typical that this leather would be so easy to scratch?

I am tempted to return it and I almost wish I had never opened the moisturizer. I WANT TO SCREAM!!!

I think a lot of people have been pretty discouraged with this new 'vintage' line. If they're going to do it, they should do it right. I have a couple of older vintage bags and the leather is fantastic and they have the old unfinished lining. Workhorses, those bags are, and it's sad that Coach can't get this one right.

They had a chance to hit a home run and I think they struck out...

I am sorry you are disappointed in your new "vintage" bag. If you like the looks of the classic bags, I would recommend that you try purchasing an older bag on eBay or Bonz (some you can get NWOT or even NWT for less than they are currently selling on coach.com. For instance, this seller http://stores.ebay.com/Your-COACH-Awaits?_trksid=p4340.l2563 always seems to have beautiful classic bags (NMA!!!!), and I have seen others as well). I have numerous older classic bags, and I can tell you I got them for fabulous prices, and the leather and construction on them is just spectacular. I am sorry that Coach really screwed the pooch on this one, they really could have tapped into something here and they really did strike out from the sounds of it!

Wow, I remember when my nearest outlet had the last of the traditional Coach bags and said that they were not going to make any more. I liked them, and I should have bought one, but they were out of the British Tan. I don't think that they were that expensive. I am shocked that they cannot recreate that nice thick leather. Hate to be a traitor, but JCrew is making some nice leathers with suede linings that look similar with turnlocks FYI. Hope you find your dream bag online!!

Oh man, I'm so sorry...I hate to hear this. I was debating between two bags this weekend before I ordered the Coach classic stewardess bag style #9525 vs. Net-A-Porter style #17996. My SA told me that the # 17996 was a light weight leather so that is why I ordered the #9525...I hope it's the thicker type of leather like my vintage bags from the 80's.

I had a few of the older bags I wish I had kept. I don't know about anyone else but I have one of the original Zoe (not MFF) and the leather is nice and thick and supple, almost like the leather of the past, if not like the leather of the past. Has anyone else noticed this?

This makes me sad. Coach charges too much to not be able to re-create the old leather. I mean, cows/cow hide hasn't changed much , right? If you feel this way, having not bought older vintage bags, I can't imagine how I'D feel buying one of these Net a porter re-issues knowing how great the old ones feel since I pretty much only own the older USA made bags. I guess the only way you can make a statement, and take a stand on the quality issues is to return it. If enough people complain, it might matter to somebody at Coach!

The older Coach bags are "bullet-proof" and even badly abused bags bounce-back beautifully if you just give them a little TLC.

I know that some folks are turned off by the idea of a used bag, and I can understand that, but by the time I give them a bath and a good conditioning - I feel very comfortable carrying them.

There's lots of vintage bags out there just looking for a good home, and they are far better quality than many of the newer bags!

^Yup, I 've read that thread. In fact I am quite familiar with the search function.

The thread mentioned thinner leather. Okay, great. I was hoping for that since some of the original bags are quite heavy that it would be better for my shoulder problem. It doesn't even feel like leather but more like cheap plastic like on a fake leather jacket. I thought it would be thinner and a little cheaper looking but not worse than fakes I have seen.

The thread did not say how easy the bag is to scratch significantly.....scratches on every surface, especially one deep enough to go through the leather to whatever is below it. (it's brown in color). The bag arrived looking like it was ten years old. I have a great SA thankfully, and it will be damaged out. It is apparently the fourth black one to have come back.

Going to go back to searching for the "real" thing. Thanks:)

I know my opinion is in the minority, but if you put moisturizer on it, it's yours now.

I'm not so sure about that. In some ways I agree. I feel that if you buy a used bag and you try to rehab it, but end up feeling disappointed with the results, too bad - that's your problem. You should have returned it right away, but once you start messing with it - then it's your bag.

On the other hand, I have seen SAs at the outlet liberally applying Coach cleaner/conditioner to bags and wallets many, many times! It seems to be their universal solution when a bag has a scratch or a blemish.

A few times I had to stop them from "treating" a bag that I wanted to purchase! I always tell them "Look at the care card before using Coach Conditioner!" (and the care card usually says not to use the stuff!)

Once an SA told me "Oh that doesn't matter, we use it all the time on just about everything!" I told her that "No thanks, since I was buying the bag I will take care it myself!"

So if Coach thinks its okay to condition a bag and then sell it as "New With Tags" I think it is fine for the OP to return a new bag after trying a little conditioner! Just my opinion!
