Happy Easter everyone!!!

First off all let me say that I really love this forum sooooo much:D. In Denmark, Europe where I´m from, nobody really cares much about diamonds, and a typical engagement ring is just a plain gold or W. G. ring. If it is really extravagant maybe there is a tiny tiny diamond (or three) put into the mix.
The bigger solitares and so are often only for the royal family or so.
So I am indeed enjoying watching all of your beautiful e- rings, and want one for myself, eventhough none of my familiy or friends will understand why:oh:.

Now the reason for me starting this thread:

My BF just surpriced me today with an upcoming trip to New York.
He kinda suggested that we go look for an engagement rings once we are there, WOOHOOO:yahoo:!!!
In Denmark, diamonds are SO MUCH MORE expensive so he thinks that we can save a lot of money, if we buy my e- ring in the Diamond District.

I´m very excited and have never been anywhere in the US besides Miami, so maybe you could help us out? I want to know with stores you have good experiences with, and does some come up with better offers than others?

My dream ring would be a platinum 1.5- 2.0 solitare, H- I color, brillant cut, clarity: vs- SI1.

Any knowledge you have I would be very thankful for:smile1:.

We are leaving on April 14´th so I´m hoping for some store suggestions before then.

Thank you so much in advance, and excuse my poor writing skills in English. Hope my post makes sense?

The website Pricescope is very helpful for diamond information. You may want to ask there as well.
I had a very good experience with ID Jewelry in the diamond district and they were well recommended on Pricescope. I ordered an eternity ring from them and thought their prices were very good.
I would contact them now and let them know what you are looking for and your budget and set up an appointment.

I agree with checking out pricescope.com. Also, they have a price comparison section where you can input the criteria you're looking for and it will pull up a price comparison from it's approved vendors. This will help give you an idea of pricing for what you're looking for.

I would recommend that you check sites like Pricescope and Blue Nile (the US version) to get an idea of what the stone you want should cost, then go to a few different shops to see what prices they quote you. When I went to the diamond district, I did find that prices at the "brick and mortar" stores were as much as 10% higher than the Blue Nile prices, but sometimes they were the same (didn't really find any prices lower than Blue Nile, but I also was not bargaining very aggressively). Since I didn't buy my ring in the diamond district, I can't really recommend any sellers in particular. All I can say is, look around, get price quotes, and try on lots of rings to be sure you know what you want. Also, to keep track of who tells you what, I always had them write the specifications and price of the stone I was looking at on the store's business card, so I knew where to go back to if that was what I wanted. Good luck finding a ring!

Also, if you're willing to take the LIRR to Long Island (Massapequa Park) you can check out Good Old Gold (goodoldgold.com). They are hardcore about cut quality, so you're sure to get a stunner.

Hi Stephie2800! I am an American living in DK and we bought a loose diamond from Blue Nile back in 2006, while we were living there (pga hans arbejde). It's a signature ideal cut, SI1 and it sparkles beautifully!! We godt a good price for it, in fact much cheaper than if we had purchased it in a store. I designed the setting with the help of a local jeweler here (Charlotte Wæhrens) and she did a beautiful job!

Sounds GREAT!
My BF was checking out Blue Nile for hours last night and he wants me to back off a bit, I can tell. I guess that he wants to make the decition by himself.

^ That's a good sign Stephie, once my DH started getting into the research, it seemed to take on a 'sporting' aspect, where he wanted to 'win' by selecting the best diamond!

Sounds exciting ;O)! After I got my diamond, I looked for ages, for different types of settings and I still look to this day since I love jewelry! You'll definitely have to post pictures when all is said and done ;O)! Best of luck with it!
